Job Description:

Position Salary Range: $52,000 - $60,000 DOE

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University—one of the nation’s premier professional journalism and communications programs—seeks a recruitment coordinator. Working as part of a dedicated student recruitment team, the coordinator engages and recruits prospective undergraduate students (first-year and transfer), advancing enrollment goals and shaping the next generation of media leaders.

The coordinator helps drive Cronkite School enrollment by implementing, ideating and measuring recruitment strategies. The successful candidate easily understands and harnesses data to activate new recruitment approaches and eagerly builds relationships with prospective students and the adults (high school teachers, administrators and families) who support them. They thrive and enjoy working on a team with opportunities to learn and lead; are as comfortable communicating on the stage as they are on the phone; and can coordinate and complete tasks both independently and collaboratively. The effective coordinator quickly connects with prospective students in a poised, informative and enthusiastic manner, motivating them with the countless opportunities at ASU while being responsive to their needs and concerns.

The coordinator often travels throughout Arizona to high schools and community colleges to build relationships with prospective students and school officials; they also travel at least four times a year to youth media conventions throughout the country, representing and recruiting for the Cronkite School.

As the Cronkite School grows its student community, we seek a passionate, energetic leader with an entrepreneurial spirit to drive expansion.

Essential Duties:

  •  Coordinates and implements strategies from the college’s recruitment plan to meet or exceed college and university enrollment goals.
  • Develops and presents engaging and informative presentations and workshops that explain aspects of media and college programs to students from a diverse range of backgrounds and interests.
  • Plans, coordinates and leads group visits from schools to the Cronkite building, working in unison with Cronkite’s events, IT and staff/faculty to create successful experiences to recruit participants.
  • Tracks and analyzes leads, interactions, visits and other touchpoints using SalesForce and ASU information systems.
  • Answers questions in a timely manner about the Cronkite School’s programs, admission requirements and general college-going process.
  • Assists with or conducts frequent and recruitment presentations, visits and events, and hosts presentations in front of large live and virtual audiences.
  • Efficiently executes campaigns by phone or other communication methods in order to successfully meet university enrollment goals.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule; occasionally working early mornings, during the evening or (rarely) on a weekend.
  • Guides a team of student ambassadors who support recruitment efforts and goals.
  • Works as the point of contact with high schools and community colleges, traveling both statewide and to major media conferences nationally.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions designated by supervisor.
  • Conducts other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in student recruitment or admissions for a higher education institution with measurable success
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Phoenix-area schools, CTE programs and other youth activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge with educational and career opportunities in media, communications, journalism and/or PR
  • Experience with effectively using and managing CRM systems (like SalesForce and PeopleSoft) and project management tools (like Calendly and Asana)
  • Evidence of effective written communication
  • Evidence of effective public speaking, tour hosting, tabling or similar presentations
