We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Consultant to advise colleges and universities on student health insurance programs. This role requires deep industry knowledge, regulatory expertise, and a consultative approach to help institutions optimize their health insurance offerings for diverse student populations.
This position may have access to sensitive information such as PII and/or PHI. As such, all Academic HealthPlans employees sign and adhere to AHP’s Information Security Handbook covering information security policies and procedures.
Your Impact
- Strategic Advisory: Provide expert guidance to higher education institutions on plan design, carrier selection, compliance, and cost containment strategies.
- Program Evaluation: Assess existing student health insurance programs for both Fully Insured, Self-Funded and recommend improvements based on institutional goals and student needs.
- RFP & Procurement Support: Assist clients in developing and managing RFPs for student health insurance carriers and third-party administrators.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure clients remain compliant with ACA, state mandates, and other relevant regulations affecting student health plans.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate discussions with university leadership, student affairs, risk management, and finance teams to align insurance strategies.
- Market Analysis: Deliver insights on market trends, competitive benchmarking, and emerging models in student health coverage.
- Implementation Oversight: Support institutions during plan transitions, including communication strategies, waiver management, and enrollment processes.
Successful Candidate Will Have
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in student health insurance, consulting, or benefits administration.
- Strong understanding of self-funded and fully insured student health plans.
- Proven experience working with higher education institutions.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deliver high-impact results.
- Life and Health Insurance License
Preferred
- Experience working with self-funded and fully insured student health plans.
- Familiarity with university procurement processes and RFP responses.
- Experience with international student insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of mental health parity laws and student wellness initiatives.
At Risk Strategies Company, base pay is one part of our total compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive suite of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off and paid holidays for eligible employees. The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $84,200 - $100,000 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
