Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,300 individuals every day across nine campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
POSITION SUMMARY
The program RN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to address physical and behavioral health needs for clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Meets with program clients in the Single Site office, in clients’ apartments, or in the community.
- Administer medication.
- Provides education and counseling to clients regarding identified health needs, health care activities, medication effects/side effects, and contraindications.
- Evaluates clients’ response to education, counseling, treatment immunizations, medications, and health services provided.
- Assists clients with obtaining prescribed medications, as necessary.
- Documents clinical assessment and care provided in the HMIS.
- Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
- Recognizes and provides for cultural and language differences of the tenant.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team conferences, staff meetings, and in-services.
- Educates other staff members regarding clients’ diagnoses and treatments.
- Provides written and/or oral status reports of tenants to assure necessary follow-up actions. Communicates pertinent data to physicians, supervisors, and other team members as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in continuing education designed to remain current with changes in the profession and maintain professional licensure.
- Maintains current CPR and First Aid certification including use of an AED.
- Ensures that an adequate supply of personal protective equipment is available to personnel who may be exposed to blood or other body fluids.
- Ensures confidentiality regarding sensitive material including protected health information.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure in the State of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse.
- Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or willingness and ability to complete certification within 30 days of hire.
- Experience working with chronically homeless individuals strongly preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with a history of mental illness and substance use required.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, harm reduction and Housing First principles.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer proficiency and familiarity with electronic documentation.
- Superb collaborative skills and demonstrated success working in a high-needs environment.
- Creativity, strong problem-solving skills.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Moore Place is 100-unit Permanent Supportive Housing apartment complex located in the Druid Hills section of Charlotte. Moore Place is the first permanent supportive housing residential complex in Charlotte based on the “Housing First” philosophy. A team of Mecklenburg County Community Support Services employees, made up of licensed mental health clinicians and a clinical supervisor, collaborate with Roof Above staff.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Individuals must be able to work with limited supervision, embrace a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable de-escalating behaviors with diverse individuals including persons with mental illness and substance use issues.
