Part of the Innovation arm of the Content Solutions department, this Content Metadata Specialist role has a wide-ranging remit that spans Emerald products, systems, and our global supplier base. You’ll strike the right balance between proactive analysis of data sets to make evidence-based decisions and reactive work to solve live problems with our content. The role requires excellent communication skills with internal and external colleagues, and an ability to juggle multiple priorities during the working week. Content Solutions is a fast-paced and continually evolving department, so we’re looking for someone who embraces change and enjoys delivering a best-in-class service to customers.

Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.

About our Recruitment Process: We welcome applications from all individuals, irrespective of age, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, or belief. As we understand the value of the transferability of skills and experiences, we are not looking for the 'perfect candidate' – we encourage everyone who is truly excited about our mission to apply.

We receive a high volume of interest in our roles and may close applications early if we reach capacity. We strongly recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
If you require additional time to complete your application due to accessibility needs or other circumstances, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re happy to support you.

Day to day we’ll trust you to:

  • Be the first port of call for queries or problems relating to the delivery of Emerald journals, books, and cases content.
  • Spot and fix errors: Use your expert knowledge to identify errors within Emerald content and lead the resolution process with content partners and Content Solutions colleagues.
  • Collaborate with IT: Work closely with the Application Support team to develop our content systems, making sure metadata flows seamlessly throughout the publishing process.
  • Support Peer Review: Help manage submission system configuration across the journals portfolio.
  • Drive improvements: Get involved in continuous improvement events—projects, workshops, Kaizens—to help us make our workflows, processes, and policies even better.
  • Take initiative: Work autonomously, keep things moving, and report back to the Content Solutions management team on your progress against key milestones.

What do you need to bring?

We’re not looking for a unicorn. If you have:
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • A knack for solving problems and making decisions
  • An analytical mindset
  • A drive to get results
…you’ll fit right in.

Technical know-how helps too:
  • Willingness to learn our systems and processes
  • Some experience with XML
  • Comfortable with MS Office
  • Awareness of accessibility is a plus
People skills? Absolutely:
  • Great customer service
  • Confident communicator and relationship builder
  • Able to negotiate and influence when needed
Experience? Relevant publishing or industry experience is great, but if you’re a quick learner with the right attitude, we want to hear from you.
