Position Summary:

 

The Tax Director, SALT will be responsible for managing all State & Local Income Tax and Sales tax matters for the Group. The Tax Director will participate in all aspects of Bentley Systems U.S. SALT compliance, planning, financial reporting and controversy efforts. The Tax Director will work with other members of the tax team, as well as the financial reporting and accounting teams, regarding tax compliance and tax accounting issues.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Review of state and local income tax filings, including extensions and estimated payments.
  • Review of annual reports, census, property tax and other miscellaneous filings with governmental authorities.
  • Manage Bentley’s sales and use process and address sales tax questions that may require independent research of sales tax laws in various jurisdictions.
  • Manage Bentley’s Canadian GST/HST process, reviewing taxability and overseeing compliance.
  • Handle audits for state, local, sales and use tax, &/or, other.
  • SALT-related adjustments related to the US Federal income tax filings.
  • Analysis of U.S. taxable income and preparation of tax adjustments for US corporate state and local income tax returns, and franchise tax returns.
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly and year-end State tax provision calculations, including tax account reconciliations and roll forwards, as well as resulting journal entries.
  • Continuously look to improve departmental methods for information gathering and analysis through internal and external tools.

 

In addition, this role also offers an opportunity to:

  • Assist with the SALT aspects of acquisition due diligence, integrations, compliance, and restructurings.
  • Support Tax Planning/Tax Research Initiatives through research and preparation of statistical and financial reports, both on a regular and specially assigned basis with regard to State and local planning, acquisitions, and audit defense strategies.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of ten years of tax experience in state income and local taxation of C-Corps with a public accounting firm and/or multinational corporation.
  • Working knowledge of sales and use tax and other miscellaneous tax filings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related course of study. An MS in Taxation or MBA and/or a CPA certification, a plus.
  • This is a full-time role expected to work 40 hours per week.
  • This role requires communication with Managers, peers and other colleagues of the company in person, and/or by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.
  • This role offers a hybrid schedule while requiring presence at a Bentley’s Global Headquarters in Exton, PA.
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer.

Core Competencies Required:

  • Strong work ethic and a desire to learn all aspects of state taxation.
  • Proven capacity for handling multiple tasks, coupled with flexibility and creative problem-solving skills in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Possess strong orientation to detail, assuming ownership of projects and organizing to deliver on deadline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and to function independently, demonstrating a high level of motivation for taking initiative.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of of tax software, Vertex (for sales & use tax), MS Office, Excel and Word.  Experience with TR Onesource products, Workday, and SAP a plus.
