About the Department

 Under general direction, compiles, analyzes, and maintains criminal justice data to identify trends, generate insights, and support strategic decisions. Collaborates with District Attorney leadership to align analytics with business needs and deliver actionable recommendation with operational needs. Oversees reporting, leads analytical projects, supervises staff, creates data visualizations, and works to enhance departmental performance through data-driven insights. 

This position is excluded from Civil Service

Position Duties

  • Leads important projects in providing business analytics to the Department, including the development of new insights and understanding of business performance based on data and statistical methods
  • Analyzes data sources to assess trends and develop actionable insights and recommendations to management, via an understanding of the business model and the information available for analysis
  • Uses data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling and fact-based management to help drive decision-making
  • Manages statistical information regarding office activity to include trial statics, indictments, and case dispositions
  • Consults with Department management to understand, document and analyze business requirements, and to translate those requirements into analytics and reporting requirements
  • Leverages data to provide insights and information to make the Department more effective
  • Develops and plans required analytic projects in response to business needs
  • Creates ongoing reporting processes and executes daily weekly and monthly reporting packages
  • Understands business processes, problems and questions translates issues into requirements that can be understood and executed efficiently and effectively, and follows-up to validate results and responds to questions
  • Interacts directly with Department Deputy Chiefs and Administrators to support their operational needs, and enable the Department to make effective decisions and solve problems with quantified insights into data
  • Communicates and presents work to management utilizing a variety of formats and visualization methodologies

Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field and three (3) years’ experience in criminal justice or related field and three (3) years’ experience in management; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Sound knowledge of principles, practices, and terminology of general and governmental accounting
  • Skilled in problem solving, decision making and maintaining accurate records
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and to establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and the public; ability to operate personal computer, peripherals and basic office equipment
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney’s Office
  • Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office especially in Microsoft Excel before beginning employment
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Working conditions are primarily indoors
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Occasionally moves about the office
  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Positions self to perform essential functions
