Skills and Competencies

•    8+ years of hands-on experience with a demonstrated track record in delivering high-impact, multi-team technical projects.
•    Proficiency in Java, Scala, C#, C++, or Python.
•    Expertise in data platforms - PostgreSQL, SQL Server, NoSQL stores, Unity Catalog, AWS Glue, Apache Iceberg, Debezium, Databricks, Apache Spark, AWS Athena.
•    Strong API & microservices development using RESTful design principles.
•    Cloud-native engineering with Docker, Kubernetes, and hybrid/on-prem deployments.
•    Solid CS fundamentals - data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
•    Creative and technical problem-solving.
•    Knowledge of software design principles and writing well-tested code.
•    Advanced knowledge of multi-threading, memory management, and query processing.
•    Secure, scalable architecture focus: security, reliability, availability, cost-efficiency.
•    Resilient and adaptable in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
•    Expertise in testing strategies and system health maintenance.

Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will:
•    Architect and deliver large-scale, mission-critical systems with measurable business impact.
•    Lead cross-functional initiatives to build scalable job orchestration and secure data lake infrastructure.
•    Define and execute multi-year technical strategies aligned with organizational goals.
•    Drive technical alignment across teams, ensuring focus on customer-centric outcomes.
•    Influence product roadmaps and strategic decisions through deep technical insight.
•    Mentor engineers across teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
•    Champion software architecture best practices, scalability, and maintainability.
•    Lead technical reviews, documentation efforts, and change management initiatives.
•    Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform evolution.
•    Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
•    Collaborate with product teams to align technical trade-offs with business value.
•    Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks and bottlenecks.


About the team

The Core Services team is central to Moody’s Insurance group. The team owns and develops scalable systems like Job Management and Execution, dynamically scaling shareable resource pools, Multi-tenant Data Lake using state of the art technologies like Kubernetes, Apache Spark and other scalable and performant query engines, Apache Iceberg, Change Data Capture, to name a few.
You will be part of exciting work in databases, REST APIs, scalable platform systems, and reliable high performance solutions using Java, Scala, Python, Postgres, and AWS technologies.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $168,200.00 - $243,650.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
