This role is responsible for research, process improvement, and technical support in aluminum anodizing and metal finishing. It combines laboratory research, production support, quality control, customer service, and safety compliance responsibilities to support Stylmark’s operations and employee-owners.
Requirements
- Research & Development: Conducts experiments on anodizing processes, chemicals, finishes, and colors to improve quality, reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and ensure environmental and safety compliance. Prepares and presents detailed technical reports and trains staff on new processes.
- Production Support: Consults with manufacturing teams to solve anodizing problems, controls chemical processes on the anodizing line, conducts lab tests (titrations, solution analysis), adjusts bath chemistry, and maintains chemical inventories.
- Sample and Finish System: Produces and maintains customer finish samples, color samples, and a master finish library to meet customer and production needs.
- Environmental Health & Safety: Serves as a technical expert on chemical safety, supports EH&S training, maintains procedures and SDS records, oversees waste handling, and manages safety equipment and compliance tasks.
- Laboratory and Relationship Management: Maintains cleanliness and process control in the R&D lab and interacts with customers, vendors, and industry partners to exchange knowledge and strengthen relationships.
Core Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications, such as those in anodizing processes or safety protocols, can be beneficial.
- Prior experience in laboratory or manufacturing environments, especially with metal finishing or anodizing, is strongly preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Attention to detail and precision in experimental setup, documentation, and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability when addressing process and safety challenges.
- Effective communication and training skills for presenting findings and training staff.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and interact professionally with customers and vendors.
- Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems.
- Organizational skills for managing chemical inventories, master sample libraries, and documentation.
