The Role

Under general direction, The Medical Services Coordinator will serve as liaison among clients, nurses, doctors, all clinical staff, clinic managers, and different departments and programs within the clinic and, as needed, throughout the agency and local health community. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Perform and schedule/assign phlebotomy tasks.
  • Retrieve lab results and ensure that all abnormal labs are flagged to the assigned or covering doctor and PCP referrals are scheduled as needed.
  • Meet with Clinical Supervisor to schedule Abnormal Lab Client Conferences as needed.
  • Ensure that Prior Authorizations are conducted whenever indicated
  • Schedule procedures like lab tests and toxicology, assign tasks to other Health Unit Staff that include MA’s, RN’s, and PA.
  • Accept from, and assign prescriber lab/tox orders for prescribers/MDs.
  • Order and maintain inventory of health unit medical supplies.
  • Multi-tasking necessary to keep pace with the busy Medical Unit activities that include but are not limited to client needs, Prescriber requests, health unit needs, Director, Clinical Supervisor, and Office Manager, and other Clinical staff requests as needed.
  • Answers and screens incoming telephone calls as needed.
  • Updates and files patients’ medical records.
  • Performs other duties as requested

Qualifications

Who You Will Be

  • License/Certification in Phlebotomy required 
  • High School or GED.
  • Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant Program.
  • At least One-Two (1-2) year experience in a health care setting with at least One (1) year customer service experience preferably working with substance use/mental health population.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Ability to put patients at ease and explain physician’s instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task with excellent organization skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
