Purpose of Position: To patrol and monitor an assigned school campus for the purpose of maintaining student safety, order and security.
Reporting: Reports to an assigned supervisor.
Employment Status: Full-time (FLSA Non-exempt)
Location: Dos Pueblos High School
Essential Functions:
Patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain student safety, order and security; unlock doors and other entry points; respond to disturbances, behavior problems and related situations; search backpacks, vehicles and lockers for alcohol, weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia as directed by an administrator and according to established procedures and policies.
Monitor lunch or break areas, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms and parking lots; escort students to the office for disciplinary action as directed; write referrals according to established guidelines and site practices; report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus to appropriate school staff.
Assist in the investigation of illegal activities; cooperate with law enforcement personnel as necessary; communicate with law enforcement personnel regarding gang activity, students involved in illegal activities, fights and related matters.
Monitor unattended classrooms during the temporary absence of a certificated teacher or administrator.
Oversee a suspension or intervention center as directed.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Other Functions:
Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Indoor and outdoor work environment, with exposure to weather conditions.
Potential exposure to angry, aggressive or hostile students.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to monitor students and read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a walkie-talkie or cell phone; ability to stand for extended periods of time, run, climb stairs, bend, knell, stoop, or reach above the shoulders.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic techniques of individual and group supervision.
Knowledge of basic interests, attitudes and emotional development of adolescents.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students and staff.
Ability to exercise good judgment and tact.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to work effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and/or experience working with junior high/middle school or high school age youth. Experience in a K12 public school setting preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Valid First Aid and CPR certification issued by an authorized agency.
Bilingual ability in Spanish is preferred but not required.
