Women's Lunch Place is a safe, welcoming daytime shelter and advocacy center for women experiencing hunger, homelessness, and poverty. We offer a supportive community that provides healthy meals, housing support, wellness programming, and other critical services designed to restore dignity and empowers women to make positive changes in their lives.


POSITION SUMMARY

As Volunteer Coordinator at Women’s Lunch Place, you’ll be the heart and soul of our incredible volunteer community. From recruiting and training to scheduling and celebrating, you’ll make sure our volunteers are not only equipped to support our mission—but inspired and empowered every step of the way. Reports to: Director of Corporate & Volunteer Engagement 

Exempt Status: Exempt      

Position Status: Full Time (40 hours per week, Mon-Fri), Occasional Evenings & weekends 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Program Management 

  • Schedule volunteers for daily shifts, special events, and administrative tasks; manage last-minute cancellations to ensure coverage. 
  • Oversee volunteers at Women’s Lunch Place events.
  • Recruit, screen, and onboard new volunteers through orientations and trainings. 
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours and assignments. 
  • Match volunteer skills and interests with organizational needs. 
  • Supervise student volunteers – write work agreements, evaluations, letters of recommendation, etc. 
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities for community or school groups - respond to inquiries, perform shelter tours, follow up. 
  • Proactively do outreach to new areas of the community to engage volunteers. 
  • Assist Director of Corporate & Volunteer Engagement with corporate group engagement.  

Engagement & Retention 

  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience for volunteers. 
  • Develop a program that allows opportunities for recognition and appreciation of both current and past Volunteers (e.g., events, awards, communications). 
  • Ensure retention of current volunteers through regular outreach.  
  • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and conflict resolution when necessary. 
  • Conduct regular check-ins and surveys to gather feedback and improve engagement. 
  • Manage quarterly volunteer newsletter to foster volunteer engagement. 

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Work closely with Executive Chef, Shelter Manager, Resource Center Coordinator, and Philanthropy staff to identify and fulfill volunteer needs. 
  • Represent WLP at volunteer fairs, local events, and community meetings as needed. 
  • Collaborate with Philanthropy team to identify high-profile volunteers and connect them with appropriate opportunities.  

Administrative & Reporting 

  • Maintain volunteer database (Volgistics). 
  • Generate reports on volunteer hours, demographics, and program impact. 
  • Develop and update volunteer policies, procedures, and training materials.

Other Responsibilities 

  • General office support as needed.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 
  • 2+ years experience (may include internships).  
  • Working in a non-profit is a plus. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 
  • Experience with databases (specific experience with Volgistics and Raiser’s Edge software is a plus). 

Language and Communications Skills: 

  • Strong organizational skills, high level of responsiveness, effective listening and writing skills. 
  • Ability to manage in-person requests and phone/email contacts. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • High level of comfortability in giving presentations and tours of the shelter. 

Other Skills and Abilities: 

  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.  
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in a growing and changing environment. 
  • Commitment to working with women experiencing poverty and homelessness. 
  • Commitment to a team approach of working with staff members, volunteers, interns, and guests.

Attendance at appointments, meetings or events in the community is required.
