This role will lead the company’s risk management function, including self-insured programs, captive participation, claims handling, reserves forecasting, safety compliance, and loss prevention strategy.
What you’ll do
- Lead the company’s self-insured programs and Captive participation.
- Provide reserves forecasting, loss modeling, and actuarial insights to Finance and executive leadership.
- Direct claims management from investigation through settlement, ensuring accurate reserves and financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain workplace safety and OSHA compliance programs.
- Train associates and leaders to build a culture of awareness, accountability, and safety.
- Monitor regulatory, litigation, environmental, and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Partner with Operations, HR, and Finance to integrate risk and loss prevention into daily operations.
- Represent Family Express in Captive governance, benchmarking against peer companies.
- Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual risk reports to executive leadership and the Captive board.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, or loss prevention (convenience retail preferred).
- Experience with captive or self-insured programs strongly preferred.
- Expertise in claims handling, safety compliance, and shrink reduction strategies.
- Ability to interpret actuarial reports and communicate risk impacts to leadership.
- Strong leadership, investigative, and analytical skills.
- A leader who is detail-oriented, decisive, and thrives in a collaborative culture.
- Willingness to travel to store locations as needed.
