What will I be doing as a Laboratory Scientist (Materials) Apprentice?

Sika is pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity to both earn a salary and study towards a nationally recognised qualification through our apprenticeship programme.

Within this role, you will be introduced to the core functions of Sika’s Research & Development department and will progressively take on responsibilities with developing skills, knowledge, and capabilities. You will gain insight into the full product creation cycle, from concept to application, while building a strong foundation in cementitious technology and formulation strategies.

As part of your role, you will:
  • Take part in a full induction to Sika’s internal R&D processes, including Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Product Creation Process, Data Management, and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Learn about the organisation’s main functions, systems, reporting lines, and how teams interact across the business.

  • Gain an introduction to the principles of cementitious technology, including product range, performance criteria, and formulation strategies.

  • Support the development and testing of cementitious products under supervision, progressively moving towards independent project work.

  • Assist with accurate recording, handling, and management of test data to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

  • Work closely with R&D colleagues to understand how innovative materials are developed, tested, and brought to market.

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised laboratory environment in line with EHS requirements.
This role offers the chance to develop both technically and professionally, while contributing to the research and innovation that underpin Sika’s reputation as a leader in construction materials.
