- Starting salary: £27,500 per year
- Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week

What will I be doing as a Laboratory Scientist (Materials) Apprentice?
Within this role, you will be introduced to the core functions of Sika’s Research & Development department and will progressively take on responsibilities with developing skills, knowledge, and capabilities. You will gain insight into the full product creation cycle, from concept to application, while building a strong foundation in cementitious technology and formulation strategies.
As part of your role, you will:
- Take part in a full induction to Sika’s internal R&D processes, including Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Product Creation Process, Data Management, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Learn about the organisation’s main functions, systems, reporting lines, and how teams interact across the business.
- Gain an introduction to the principles of cementitious technology, including product range, performance criteria, and formulation strategies.
- Support the development and testing of cementitious products under supervision, progressively moving towards independent project work.
- Assist with accurate recording, handling, and management of test data to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Work closely with R&D colleagues to understand how innovative materials are developed, tested, and brought to market.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised laboratory environment in line with EHS requirements.

Our programs are designed to give you the best of both worlds: academic learning and practical training that will set you up for success in your chosen career path.

At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.
You will be provided with 6 hours per week by your employer to conduct learning and training during working hours. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments.
You’ll be trained by a team of expert tutors from Tiro as well as an experienced workplace mentor at Sika who, together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.

Due to the nature and location of this position, we are only accepting applicants who hold a UK Driving license and are able to drive to site within a 45 minute commute.
