Job Summary: The Childcare Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children from infancy to school age at Vision House’s Children's Village Child Care Center. This position ensures that meals are prepared in accordance with USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations and adheres to all local health and safety standards. The Childcare Cook plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of the children in care.

HOURS: 40 hours, hourly non-exempt
LOCATION: Shoreline, WA
Our new Childcare Cook will enjoy the following benefits:
· $22.00-$25.00 per hour DOE

As a Childcare Cook you will:
· Plan, prepare, and serve nutritionally balanced meals and snacks in compliance with USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations.
· Determine meal and snack counts and distribute food to each classroom.
· Deliver food to classrooms and interact positively with children on a daily basis.
· Collect trays and dispose of leftovers following appropriate protocols.
· Perform weekly inventory of food and supplies, submitting a list of needed items to the center director.
· Order food and supplies from approved vendors within the budget set by the director.
· Check and verify accuracy of supply deliveries.
· Ensure compliance with state and local health department regulations, as well as safety and nutritional standards.
· Follow hygiene, safety, and sanitation standards, ensuring compliance from any additional kitchen staff.
· Keep the kitchen, appliances, cabinets, and inventory organized and clean.
· Adjust menus as needed to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, or changes in children's schedules, ensuring food safety protocols are followed.
· Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and center events as requested.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support kitchen operations and the child care program.
Requirements
Childcare Cook candidates should have the following qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years of work experience in cooking for multiple individuals, preferably in a childcare facility.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Familiarity with menu planning software or tools used to track USDA compliance and manage dietary needs is preferred.
· Knowledge of USDA Food and Nutrition requirements and an understanding of food allergies and portion control standards.
· Knowledge of current local and state food regulations, food safety, sanitation, nutrition, and food preparation.
· Food Handler's Permit as required by Washington State.
· Ability to adapt to changes in menu or schedule based on food availability, children's needs, or budgetary constraints.
· Strong customer service mindset with the ability to interact positively with children and staff.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
· Strong commitment to attendance and reliability.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Active Christian faith, with the ability to sign Vision House’s Statement of Faith.
· Ability to pass background check
Physical Demands/Work Requirements:
· Must be able to lift 40 pounds properly.
· Must be physically able to sit, bend, stand, and move around in the kitchen for long periods of time.
· Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and children's well-being.
