POSITION SUMMARY: The Credit Analyst collaborates with bankers in gathering and evaluating commercial and ag credit related information on current and prospective customers by preparing written reports of analysis which include in-depth analysis of financial statements, historical and projection-based cash flow and ratio analysis, suggested credit structure, general industry analysis and identified risks.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

ACCOUNTABILITY 1: Financial Analysis

· Read, review, and understand various financial statements to include but not limited to; tax returns, balance sheets, profit and loss statements, aging reports, borrowing base certificates, debt schedules, equipment lists, credit bureau reports, rent rolls, lease agreements, and appraisals.

· Become proficient with loan underwriting software to a point that training can be provided to those less familiar with the capabilities of the program. 

· Spread, analyze and review financial statements for current and prospective borrowers in a variety of industries using tax returns, financial statements, credit reports and other reporting as needed or requested.  Calculate cash flow for more complex borrowers and guarantors.  Analysis may include projections, trends and ratio analysis.  Summarize and analyze findings in the bank’s written credit presentation. 

· In the event of documentation discrepancies or identified potential credit weaknesses, communicate with the banker, requesting correction of the discrepancies and recommending alternatives for improving the credit lines. Perform follow-up action as necessary until corrected. 

· Prepare annual reviews on borrowing relationships in accordance with bank Loan Policy.  

ACCOUNTABILITY 2: Other Duties

· As needed, attend Loan Committee meetings and provide input where credits are presented for final approval, recommended action, and classification. 

· Study economic trends in applicable industries or branches of industry to help predict probable success of loan customers.

· Assist the Bankers in verifying that collateral is perfected and appropriately documented. Also be able to provide guidance on real estate valuation requirements for the transactions. 

· Ad-hoc projects (credit risk department or other departments). 

· Other Duties as assigned.

Requirements

  

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Business Administration, Accounting, and/or Finance, or related coursework and/or equivalent experience/knowledge.

· 3+ years of experience in a similar position is preferred. 

· Experience with financial spreading software preferred.

· Knowledge of credit risk management best practices, policies, and procedures preferred.

· Knowledge of loan accounting, credit analysis, financial analysis, lending practices, and banking regulations preferred.

· Experience with financial analysis including ratio, trend, and cash flow analysis preferred.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Excellent oral and written communications skills to prepare and present persuasive reports effectively to bank personnel of all levels, including internal and external auditors/examiners.

· Analytical/synthesis skills.

· Organizational skills.

· Decision making/creative problem-solving skills.

· Ability to deal with customers and employees with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).

· Ability to gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.
