About the Role:
The Procurement Buyer plays a critical role in the manufacturing industry by managing the acquisition of materials, tooling, and services essential for production. This position ensures that all purchases meet quality standards, are cost-effective, and are delivered on time to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations. The Procurement Buyer is responsible for source selection and procurement function directly associated with the Company's needs for indirect materials, tooling, supplies, and services. By analyzing market trends and supplier performance, the role contributes to continuous improvement in procurement strategies and cost savings. Ultimately, the Procurement Buyer helps optimize inventory levels and supports the company’s overall operational efficiency and profitability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Combination of two years of directly related education or training and/or four years purchasing experience in the manufacturing industry preferred.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes and supplier management.
- Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP systems and MRP/Inventory systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze market trends and perform cost analysis.
- Experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Initiates purchase orders for tooling, supplies and services as required for part production or equipment/building maintenance; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required. Close coordination with Engineering, Production Control and Production to assure timely execution of product and service sourcing.
- Supplier Maintenance: Responsible for the supplier selection and approval based on product requirements, quality and price. Works with supplier to maintain the high level of service that is required to meet the customer requirements. Maintain and review computerized or manual supplier related databases for items purchased and evaluates supplier performance
- Research item requirements, meet with supplier to discuss any application requirements and solicits price quotations for product.
- Resolves any supplier product defects with supplier including any pricing, delivery or invoicing errors.
- Involved in the negotiation process of long-term contracts but requires upper management approval on all long-term contracts.
- Involved in the maintenance of any tooling related databases as related to the purchasing process.
- Perform periodic tooling inventory cycle counts to confirm/maintain inventory levels.
- Assist in the MRP/Operational purchase process as required.

Analytical skills are essential for evaluating supplier proposals, market trends, and cost structures to make informed purchasing decisions. Organizational skills are critical for managing multiple purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, proficiency with procurement software and ERP systems streamlines the purchasing process and supports data-driven decision-making.
