The purpose of this position is to help maintain School of Technology Labs in all disciplines of the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Sciences. This position also assists with maintaining classrooms and other spaces utilized by the school for teaching and learning.

Pay Range: $18-19/hour

Location: East Chicago

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday primarily, some weekends or evenings as needed

Major Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and repair lab equipment

  • Perform routine and periodic maintenance and preventative maintenance and repairs to lab equipment

  • Maintain clean shop environment

  • Organize and store lab equipment and tools

  • Prepare machines and materials for hands-on teaching during classroom and lab time

  • Assist students in completing certification exams and other hands-on projects

  • Conduct student open lab hours as needed by department(s) so that students may complete projects outside of scheduled class hours

  • Assist Dean in researching and evaluating future equipment needs

  • Assist Dean in researching and ordering of parts needed for equipment repair and maintenance.

Other duties as logically assigned by school Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in machine tool and/or industrial maintenance field

  • Ability to work well with others as well as independently

  • Initiative and ability to work without supervision when required

  • Good attendance and punctuality a must

  • Positive attitude and communication skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

  • Ability to read precision measuring tools

  • Familiar with OHSA safety

  • Ability to work varied schedules, including some evenings

  • Willingness to pursue additional training as necessary

  • Willing to acquire National Certifications related to course lab work upon request

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, machining and process equipment

  • Must be able to operate power tools, both stationary and portable

  • Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment

  • Must be able to communicate status of duties assigned, both written and oral

  • Work in an organized manner with attention to details

  • Demonstrate and promote good safety practices
