Azure Cloud Engineer – Job Description
Open Dealer Exchange (ODE), an affiliate of Reynolds and Reynolds, is looking to hire an Azure Cloud Engineer to support its workforce in Southfield, MI. This is a direct hire opportunity. This role is hands-on and focused on delivering scalable, secure, and highly available services in Microsoft Azure, with all infrastructure managed as code using Terraform. Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform, following Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices to ensure consistency, repeatability, and security.
- Provide comprehensive support for Azure-based services including Virtual Machines, Application Gateways, Azure Firewall, Web Apps, and associated networking components, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Work closely with the Cybersecurity Team to implement and enforce security controls such as Azure Policies, Network Security Groups (NSGs), and role-based access control (RBAC), maintaining compliance with industry standards.
- Perform daily operational activities including system monitoring, patching, backup management, performance tuning, and health checks to ensure platform stability and uptime.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and serve as a technical escalation point for Azure-related outages and critical infrastructure issues, driving swift resolution and communication.
- Lead root cause analysis efforts for recurring issues, implementing sustainable, long-term fixes to enhance reliability and reduce incident frequency.
- Collaborate with application development, security, and architecture teams to design scalable cloud infrastructure solutions for new initiatives and cloud migration projects.
- Develop detailed design documentation, implementation guides, and operational runbooks to support ongoing infrastructure maintenance and team knowledge sharing.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging technologies and tools that improve infrastructure automation, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience in cloud infrastructure and operations.
- Approximately 3 years of hands-on experience managing infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, with a focus on supporting public-facing web applications.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code methodologies, with strong proficiency in Terraform for automating cloud resource provisioning.
- Demonstrated expertise in Azure networking services, including VNets, subnets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), route tables, DNS, and load balancing solutions.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing Azure services such as Application Gateway, Azure Firewall, Virtual Machines, and App Services (Web Apps).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues under pressure, particularly during high-impact outages or incidents.
- Familiarity with cloud monitoring and logging tools including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
Desired Skills
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Proficiency in scripting with PowerShell or Bash to automate administrative tasks and deployment processes.
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), is a plus.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and best practices for securing resources and managing access in Azure environments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400) are a plus.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
