We are looking for Engineering Technologists for the Non-Revenue Vehicles Engineering section in the Bus Maintenance and Shops Department! 

What You Will Do

  • The Engineering Technologist will provide the technical requirements for Non-Revenue Vehicles that support the procurement of new vehicles and equipment (construction, landscaping and material handling).
  • Manage the procurement project focusing on design validation and inspections.
  • Perform commissioning tests for new vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • The incumbent will conduct operational tests, quality inspections, technical problem solving and quality assurance activities. 
  • Diagnose and coordinate complex repairs on vehicles and equipment when requested by Non-Revenue Technicians; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards; suggest solutions or modifications; provide direction and documentation as required.
  • Assess modification requests for existing vehicles and equipment, design and coordinate the implementation. Document the configuration change in a technical report while ensuring compliance to relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare various written reports, modification instructions, repair and diagnosis techniques, and analyses (e.g., cost and life cycle)

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your education will consist of completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist is considered an asset.
  • University degree in Engineering / Applied Science is considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Truck & Coach Technician Certificate (310-T) is considered an asset.
  • Well versed in software applications such as MS Office Suite, Power BI, Sharepoint, Fleet Management Software such as M5, CAD Software such as Auto Cad or CATIA, and analysis software such as Truck Science.
  • Sound knowledge of automotive engineering design principles and maintenance practices utilized in modern vehicles and equipment.
  • Detailed knowledge on installed accessories for commercial fleet vehicles such as amber lighting systems, vocational workbodies (service trucks, snow clearing and aerial bucket trucks), signage, surveillance cameras, police package prisoner barriers, cargo vans upfit with shelving and workbenches, communication systems, GPS systems, as well as knowledge in OBDII (onboard diagnostic) and J1939 control systems, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical and air conditioning systems, ICE (internal combustion engine – diesel and gasoline) powered vehicles, fully battery electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.
  • Must have a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario, class "G" driver's license and will be required to use own vehicle in order to travel to various work locations or to attend meetings with suppliers etc.
