About the Role:
The Automation/Mechatronic Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing advanced automated systems and mechatronic solutions to enhance manufacturing processes at the LeClaire Manufacturing Technology Center. This position focuses on integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components to create efficient, reliable, and scalable automation systems that meet production goals. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, production, and quality assurance to ensure seamless system integration and continuous improvement. A key outcome of this role is to optimize manufacturing workflows through innovative automation strategies that reduce downtime and increase throughput. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing automation or mechatronic systems within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in programming PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and familiarity with industrial robotics.
- Strong understanding of control systems, sensors, actuators, and embedded systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical design.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or Profibus.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and industrial IoT technologies.
- Certification in automation or robotics engineering (e.g., ISA Certified Automation Professional).
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test automated machinery and mechatronic systems tailored to manufacturing needs.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, robotics, and control systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components into cohesive automation solutions.
- Conduct system validation, performance analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff on automated equipment and processes.
- Document design specifications, test procedures, and maintenance protocols for all automation systems.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement innovative automation solutions.
