Senior Health Data Analys
Under the direction of the Director of Public Health Information and Data Strategy, the Senior Health Data Analyst will be responsible for overseeing and supporting advanced level analysis, visualization, interpretation, and reporting of public health data. With minimal supervision, the work will involve the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for data collection, cleaning, analysis, and reporting using advanced statistical methods and data visualization techniques. This position will contribute to the Health Departments data infrastructure, the organization’s effort for data-driven decision-making that improve the health and wellbeing of Detroit residents and support meaningful data-sharing of health information for stakeholders and the public.
Position Duties
- Plan and manage data analytics projects and stay organized in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Pivot as necessary with changing organizational priorities.
- Export, clean, analyze, summarize, map/visualize, and interpret a variety of internal and external sources of quantitative and qualitative data including, but not limited to, categorical, ordinal, numeric, string, date/time, network, and geospatial.
- Lead meetings that focus on identifying reporting requirements as well as user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods for data collection and reports.
- Work closely with all levels of internal and external stakeholders to quickly develop and present scheduled or ad hoc reports.
- Research, design, and develop custom statistical analyses, automated data gathering tools, predictive models, and algorithms to analyze, summarize, and interpret data into meaningful stories for a variety of audiences.
- Maintain, improve, and optimize existing suite of data analysis (automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, enable and promote integration and scalability, etc.).
- Generate, document, and updated standard operating procedures for data-related processes (analyses, reports, dashboards) to ensure ongoing validity, reproducibility, and version control.
- Perform regular quality control of reports and dashboards.
- Receive, interpret, and respond to requests for data from Health Department staff and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to team knowledge building and growth by sharing/learning new tools, providing feedback, reviewing analyses, reports and dashboards generated by team members, mentor and onboard new team members, and troubleshoot on shared projects.
- Develop, organize, and contribute to departmental training materials and workshops for data analysis and data reporting.
- Collaborate, support, and mentor data analyst from other teams and programs.
- Supervise up to four (4) data analysts.
- Apply ethical principles, laws, and policies in accessing, collecting, analyzing, using, maintaining, and disseminating data and information including Department policies, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable state and local privacy laws.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Physical Sciences, Public Health or related field.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in the field of data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
Qualifications (preferred):
Six (6) years of experience working in the field of data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
Master’s degree preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.
