As a Specialist I for Engineering/Plastics, you will be responsible for conducting a wide variety of testing on plastics, pipes, fittings and other related plumbing products to specific standards and procedures. In addition, being a lead on specialized testing, and understanding the various testing within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform high level laboratory testing with minimal supervision
- Maintaining/organizing assigned workload and meet specific due dates
- Start to finish testing (buildup, tear down, monitoring, data entry, peer reviews)
- Prepare and record all data per ISO 17025
- Create, review and update SOPs as necessary
- Monitor and maintain assigned lab equipment for calibrations and other lab needs
- Give and receive continuous trainings
- Cross-train in other lab areas to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
- Maintain a clean work environment and 6s areas
- Assure adherence to all safety/health policies and procedures
- Perform and understand high level testing
- Develop/design new testing procedures
- Mentor/train staff and be a lead in specialized areas
- Respond to internal/external client inquiries as needed
- Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications
- Bachelor or Associates degree in an Engineering/Scientific discipline or High school diploma/GED with 3+ years NSF Lab experience or 5 years external lab experience
- Ability to read, understand and follow standards, SOP’s and test methods
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on schedule
- Great attention to detail
- Understanding in all areas within Plastics
- Proficient in NSF Applications (Sample Manager (LIMS), Qualer, Insight, DaCs, Warehouse Manager, Master Control)
- Knowledgeable of PC/Windows software and Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word)
- Ability to utilize wide range of tools (hand, power, and pneumatic tools)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Familiarity with measuring instruments (caliper, pi tape, ruler, micrometer, balance)
- Ability to properly handle/mix chemicals and understand the safety risks of each
- Organized and able to work in a fast pace environment
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Scientific discipline
- Laboratory experience and/or college level laboratory coursework
- Two years’ experience in testing using standard or methods
- Knowledgeable with laboratory QA/QC programs
- Experience in Quality Control testing
- Knowledgeable with plumbing products
- Mechanical and Electrical trouble shooting and design ability
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light to heavy physical effort required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Standing for long periods of time is necessary - ~80% lab work 20% desk work
- Working with various solvents, acids, and bases as needed
- Safety glasses and steel toes must always be worn in lab areas.
- Proper PPE (gloves, hard hats, face shields) needed during specific testing
