Machinist Assistant
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machine Assistant to join our Machine Shop team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of machine tools and specialized machines. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with technical aptitude and a commitment to precision and safety in a dynamic production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machine tools and special purpose machines.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure they are functioning correctly and producing parts within specified tolerances.
- Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet quality standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment to minimize downtime.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Record production data and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience operating machine tools, special purpose machines, or industrial robots in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of metalworking processes and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions in English.
- Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for recording data and operating control systems.

Requirements
Duties/Responsibilities
- Able to perform Machine Shop Operator functions.
- Tool operator, familiar with machine shop tools.
- Lifts work piece manually or using hoist and secures work piece in fixture or loads automatic feeding device.
- Inspects and measures machined work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
- Moves machine controls and guides to adjust machine.
- Replaces worn machine accessories such as cutting tools or brushes.
- Adds coolant to machine reservoir and turns valve to start flow of coolant.
- Files, sands, or shapes machined parts.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to clearly communicate with engineering, technical support, sales, and management.
- Thorough understanding of products and equipment used in manufacturing.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school training desired.

Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
