Position
The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track 9-month Assistant Professor in the Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice. Preferred start date August 2026.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field is required. ABD
applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements
must be completed by February 1, 2027. Research areas in criminology and/or criminal justice are open, but special consideration will be given to applicants with teaching and research experience on courts/sentencing, surveillance studies/cybercrime and/or critical criminological perspectives.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and to working with a diverse student population on our main campus and at our Towson University Northeast campus in Harford County, MD. The candidate will be required to teach a variety of
undergraduate courses in criminology and/or criminal justice depending on the candidate’s area of specialty and the needs of the department, including Research Methods in Criminal Justice and/or Theories of Crime; to maintain an active research agenda with consistent and demonstrated scholarship activity and potential for grant-funded research; to advise undergraduate students; and to participate actively in shared governance.

Department:
The department (https://www.towson.edu/cla/departments/socioanthrocrim/) offers an undergraduate major in Sociology-Anthropology, with concentrations in Anthropology, Criminal Justice or Sociology and annually enrolls approximately 700 majors, served by 29 full-time faculty.

Salary and Benefits: 
Targeted salary range: $72,000 - $75,000.
