Position is for 7 hours per day and 187 days per school year.

 

Applicants MUST have a Bachelor's degree in human services field (social work, psychology, etc) or P-12 Education.

 

CLASS TITLE: STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES WORKER/ REPORTS TO: School Principal and/or Designee 

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt 

APPROVED: December 12, 2024- Order #2024-3724

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Provide support to meet the school-related human service needs of the students enrolled in K-12 programs in the district; ensure that each student will grow to his/her greatest intellectual ability, emotional development and psychological well-being; and coordinating a variety of activities and functions related to the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of students. 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 

  • Triage student behavioral needs during the school day, refer students to appropriate school personnel; and link families with community resources when applicable;
  • Collaborates with school staff in assessing student needs;
  • Consult with school staff about children's needs, concerns and behavior/academic issues;
  • Supports Administrators/School Counselors in system level programming
  • Refers students to the proper authorities for child abuse or neglect when suspicion exists and provides support services to those children as needed; 
  • Deliver behavioral interventions to individual students and/or small groups; 
  • Collects and maintains intervention data as appropriate
  • Provide transportation and supervision for field trips and visit homes as assigned; 
  • Establish and maintain good cross-component relationships and develop supportive relationships with students and their families; 
  • Participates in professional development to improve knowledge and skills
  • Drive a district vehicle or personal car to conduct work as assigned; 
  • Assure compliance with Federal, State and District policy, administrative procedures and negotiated agreements as applicable to assignment; 
  • Maintain regular attendance; and 
  • Perform related duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • Community and Human Service agencies and resources in the local area; 
  • Principles, methods, techniques, strategies, and trends in academics and behaviors; 
  • Social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of adolescent students; 
  • Basic learning theory applicable to the student group served; 
  • Basic academic content taught in District schools;
  • School wide behavioral expectations
  • Students with special needs, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds; 
  • Record-keeping techniques; 
  • Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities; and 
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. 

ABILITY TO

  • Assist students in effectively analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral, educational, social, and emotional problems and concerns; 
  • Deliver individual and group behavioral interventions;
  • Collaborate with school staff in assessing students needs;
  • Drive a District vehicle or personal car to conduct work as assigned; 
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; 
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; 
  • Work independently with little direction; 
  • Plan and organize work; 
  • Maintain records and prepare reports; and 
  • Work confidentially with discretion. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking 
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing 
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations 
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching 
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field or P-12 Education. 
  • Salary is based on Rank IV-Certified Salary Schedule
  • Credit for Years of Experience is limited to the years in this position with Madison County Schools with the exception that a new employee to this position will be given experience credit for years in a similar position up to a maximum of 5 years experience.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Valid Kentucky driver's license 

Safe Crisis Management (will be trained upon hire)
