New temporary position (12 months) hybrid working with some days onsite at Weybridge, Surrey.

This role will involve some travel also.

Role Summary:

This role will work with the EU Packaging and Sustainability Manager to develop and implement sustainable packaging solutions to simplify our European supply chain, enabling improvements in productivity at our EU internal sites and Contract Manufacturing Organisation (CMOs).  Haleon has ambitious sustainability targets including reduction of virgin plastic from our supply chain by a third and having all packaging recyclable or reusable by 2030.  The EU supply chain supplies products globally across the Haleon portfolio and we are looking for someone who will help us to take packaging projects from ideas to fully implemented solutions at sites.

The successful candidate will be an experienced packaging expert with demonstrated expertise in managing complex projects through to successful completion.  They will work independently and direct the work of others withing sites and central functions to complete all tasks associated with the project.  Done successfully, this role will help us to accelerate cost, sustainability and productivity improvement projects within the EU region.

Job purpose:

  • Technical packaging expert responsible for effective execution of sustainability and productivity improvement initiatives across all brands in the EU portfolio.

  • Packaging expertise to assess ideas, with demonstrated technical, project management and stakeholder management skills to convert ideas into fully scoped and approved projects (or discontinue as appropriate).

  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to drive projects through to completion and benefit delivery, including completion of technical packaging aspects within the project

  • Will work with suppliers, sites and CMOs to ideate sustainable packaging solutions to simplify the portfolio, improve productivity, reduce cost and enhance customer experience.

  • Has demonstrated packaging expertise: creation and approval of design files and technical specifications, pallet pattern creation, completion of sustainability and child resistance assessments, lead trials and validation activities, supplier evaluations.

Key role & responsibilities:

  • Technical assessment of complexity reduction ideas, developing sustainable packaging solutions, Business Case creation, support Site Impact Assessment, trials/validation and regulatory approval to execution of technical change

  • Work with suppliers to develop cost effective and sustainable packaging designs

  • Work with receiving site on management and execution of trials and validation activities related to projects, including: documentation, production planning, component management

  • Manage technical packaging aspects of change ensuring that local GMP, Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety processes are adhered to in all aspects of role

  • Problem solving technical issues using process analysis tools such as Root Cause Analysis and identify solutions.

  • Transferring knowledge and expertise in material science, packaging processes, and product/packaging competencies to site or contract manufacturer as appropriate

Business Expertise:

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs and related tech tools.

  • Good oral and written communication skills are important to work with people at different levels of the organization.

  • Experienced packaging expert.  Demonstrated successful completion of complex technical packaging change projects within a regulated environment.  Awareness of EU regulations impacting packaging (e.g. PPWR – Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulations).  Demonstrated experience of working across multiple packaging formats.

  • Every project will be different and the individual needs to be able to work with different people from across the business to solve problems and ensure that people are completing their tasks within a matrix organisation.

  • Able to work as member of a team as well as independently.

Preferred experience:

  • Min 5 yrs in pharma, FMCG or similar environment; demonstrates level of experience and credibility to drive change as a technical leader
