POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The One-on-One Teaching Aide at the Whatcom Family YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families while providing one-on-one supervision and support for a child in Barkley EL program. This position will ensure that a child is supported and met at their specific developmental level, allowing them to successfully participate in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist and guide the child through social-emotional challenges to encourage positive interaction with other participants and staff.
- Supervise the child to ensure that the child remains within the program boundaries at all times.
- Effectively communicate with the center director, lead teachers and parents regarding the progress, challenges and needs of the child.
- Fill out any applicable daily reporting to parent and program supervisor.
- Reinforce positive behaviors.
- Guide the child to support learning of Y after school rules.
- Ensure that child respects personal boundaries of other participants and staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a positive relationship with early learning personnel and parents and in-ratio site staff.
- Provide information to parents in a timely manner.
- Read and follow the YMCA Code of Conduct.
- Read and follow the YMCA guidelines for working with children as outlined in the Discipline Policy.
- Report any suspicions of possible child abuse to the Family Enrichment Director, Barkley Early Learning Director, or Program Supervisor immediately and keep proper documentation.
- Complete and approve digital time card through time keeping system in a timely manner per instructions from Program Supervisor/ Center Director.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Current CPR (Adult, Infant & Child) and First Aid, AED certifications.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
program activities. - Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
with people from different backgrounds. - Emotional, social, and physical capability to work with children and other adults in a group setting.
- Complete Praesidium Child Abuse prevention training within 15 days of hire.
- STARS 30 Hour Childcare Basic Training (Must be completed within 3 months of hire date)
- Must have or be in the process of obtaining the following:
___ Negative TB Test
___ HIV/Bloodborne Pathogen training
___ Safe Sleep
___ MERIT ID account
___ Food Handlers Card
___ Cleared Portable Background Check from MERIT
10. Additional training may apply based on the individual needs of a child.
