The Opportunity
This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division. In Research & Development, our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience, and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.
Primary Job Function
- Innovation, development, and validation of methods and processes to support DNA sequencing applications and microbiology testing in the infant formula and nutrition beverage business for food safety and microbiome research
Core Job Responsibilities
- • Conducts research in microbiology related to food safety and/or microbiome science related to infant formula products and nutritional beverages. Interprets, reports and translates results effectively to diverse cross-functional teams
• Directs independent projects toward new technology development and feasibility assessment, method optimization, troubleshooting and validation through to operationalizing methodology in line with business needs.
• Evaluation of emerging technologies related to DNA sequencing and microbiology testing through external engagement and research
• Ensures laboratory spaces and equipment are maintained and compliant; participates in laboratory management activities.
• Subject matter expert on DNA sequencing and molecular biology in cross-functional teams; presents project or testing outcomes; leads and/or participates in team meetings and activities and communicates effectively.
Required Qualifications
Required
- PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field. Prefer at least 2 years of experience in academic, clinical or industry laboratory. MS with commensurate experience considered.
Preferred
- Demonstrated success in microbial genomics research and development, including experience in molecular biology methods, microbial genomics, DNA sequencing technologies required. Bioinformatics experience preferred.
- Microbiology background required, including experience with aseptic technique, general microbiology and laboratory safety. Background in food safety microbiology and/or food pathogens a plus
- Lab management experience recommended. Background in compliance, laboratory safety and audit experience a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft tools, laboratory information management systems, statistical software applications, and cloud computing preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate technical concepts to a general audience.

The base pay for this position is
$85,300.00 – $170,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
