Position Summary:
The IT Administrator is a vital member of the Network and Systems administration team, responsible for maintaining and supporting the University’s IT infrastructure, including servers, software, networks, telecom, and educational technology tools. This role ensures stability, security, and performance across the campus-wide technology environment, while contributing to larger strategic initiatives and ensuring cross-functional collaboration among other Computing Services teams and across the University. Strong technical and troubleshooting skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and commitment to teamwork and collaboration, are essential to success in this critical role. This role supports the University’s mission by ensuring reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that enhance student success and help promote overall institutional effectiveness.Systems Administration
- Install, configure, patch, and maintain both Microsoft Windows Server and Linux based operating systems and server applications.
- Support server hardware and infrastructure, including providing procurement recommendations.
- Implement and maintain system security including firewall rules, ACLs, Group Policy, and accounts / permissions.
- Monitor system performance and implement and maintain backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
- Take an active role in server and application planning, design, documentation, upgrades, and repairs.
Network Administration
- Install, configure, patch, and maintain the campus wired and wireless networks, including firewalls, routing, switching, wireless access points, and VoIP systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot the campus fiber backbone and network infrastructure.
- Support network hardware and infrastructure, including providing procurement recommendations.
- Ensure infrastructure improvements meet current industry accepted best practices and standards.
- Monitor network performance and implement and maintain backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
- Take an active role in network planning, design, documentation, upgrades, and repairs.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate clearly and effectively with team members, stakeholders, and end users to ensure alignment and understanding of system-related initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of server and network services with campus-wide IT initiatives.
- Support other technical teams with initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Supply technical documentation usable by help desk and IT staff at various levels.
- Conduct independent research and maintain technical knowledge of current best practices, trends, and ideas through training, certifications, and industry events.
- Actively participate as a member of the team by attending meetings and discussions to
collaborate on upcoming and ongoing technology initiatives.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, MIS, CIS, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work and educational experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in IT, networking, systems administration, security, and infrastructure support.
- Hands-on experience in both Microsoft Windows Server and Linux / open-source environments, including experience with server virtualization and containerization technologies such as Hyper-V, VMWare, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of core IP networking fundamentals, with an emphasis on OSI layers 2 / 3 and related services such as DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Experience working with Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Experience working with hardware and software across multiple vendors including Aruba/ HP Enterprise, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft, Ubiquiti Unifi, and WatchGuard.
- Comfortable utilizing a CLI (command line interface) for administration, including PowerShell and Bash.
- Current CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications, or the willingness to become certified within 1 year of hiring.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders such as students, faculty and staff in a clear and understandable format.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering cloud / SaaS productivity suites including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
- Familiarity with cloud hosting and infrastructure platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Oracle Cloud.
- Hands-on experience managing storage systems and NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices, Including provisioning, performance tuning, and backup strategies.
- Experience implementing and managing firewall systems and security policies to protect institutional data and ensure compliance with security standards.
- Experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and Git version control.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting systems including Microsoft System Center, Cacti, Nagios and Zabbix.
- Experience scripting for automation utilizing tools such as PowerShell and Bash.
- Experience with configuration management tools, including Puppet and SCCM.
- Awareness of current trends and best practices in a higher education IT environment.
- Understanding and application of relevant compliance frameworks including FERPA.
- Working knowledge of the ITIL framework including service management, incident management, and change/configuration management.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust security architecture, systems and account hardening, firewall and network security policy, and information security best practices.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $68,052-$77,412.
