This is a hybrid role, which means that you will have the flexibility to work both onsite and at a distance. You will collaborate onsite at our Cashton, WI office for 4-8 days per month, and the rest of the time you can choose to work remotely or onsite.

Summary of Role:

Organic Valley is looking for a passionate, creative leader to oversee retail packaging design for our cooperative. The Packaging Design Manager is the Cooperative’s go-to for all matters involving branded package design, responsible for directing and managing the process from brief through approvals and printing. This role carries out design and production tasks while managing our outside agency, in-house production team and reports to the Senior Director of Creative. Responsibilities include art direction, assigning tasks, coordinating rollout of new and renovated products, checking die lines and securing vendor print specs for best printing outcome, managing team priorities and budget. The Packaging Design Manager is also responsible for ensuring package design resources are created for other departments, including packaging image assets, mockups, and prototypes.

We are looking for an individual who is highly collaborative, proactive, detail-oriented, team player and problem-solver with the ability to pivot according to changing priorities and who is excited to work for a mission-based company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support Organic Valley brand with packaging design updates, mock-ups, and assets, print and plant coordination.
• Manage and supervise in-house artwork production team
• Oversee creation of packaging artwork, ensuring all designs meet brand guidelines and follow FDA regulations
• Manage entire package design process from the creative side including consulting on initial briefs and concept needs, managing and/or designing packages, leading creative review, and working across departments to coordinate approvals. 
• Manage workflow of all packaging projects to ensure projects follow process guidelines, stay on time and pivot as necessary with changing circumstances.
• Coordinate packaging design projects with agencies and freelance artists.
• Supervise packaging assets on the digital asset management system and proper archiving of files.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the approval process to facilitate timely response to regulatory or legal changes.
• Collaborate with Integrated Production Management team to assign work to internal and external resources.
• Attend Commercialization meetings to coordinate and collaborate across departments, regarding packaging changes, legal considerations, timelines, and print processes and limitations.
• Participate in plant meetings and initial plant runs for new SKUs when appropriate.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

•Identify software needs and work with Marketing Operations to evaluate and procure.
•Stay abreast of packaging design trends and innovations.
•Attend In-Person quarterly Marketing rallies/meetings
•Attend on-press viewing on new packages as needed.
•Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 5+ years’ experience in Package Design development, launch and production.
• 2+ years supervisory experience – managing creative team and process.
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field is preferred. 
• Experience with food packaging, particularly cartons and film.
• Proven ability to effectively define and lead creative processes and projects to meet goals.
• The ideal candidate sees challenges as opportunities for growth and development
• Experience with integrated marketing and understanding the role of packaging plays in securing strong brand outcomes
• Strong color sense and typography and composition skills.
• Create physical prototypes in-house for design approval and out-sourced sales prototypes.
• Strong project management, organizational skills, and people skills are necessary.
• Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience with Workamajig or other project management software preferred.
• Positivity and the ability to keep teams motivated to do their best work.
• Excellent time management skills for project timelines and team workloads.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments, self-manage and meet deadlines.
• Drive to never be satisfied with the status quo and always looking to make things better.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with various individuals at various levels of the business.
• Proactive problem solving.
• Able to communicate clear directions on in-progress design work, artwork creation, product managers and internal stakeholders.
• Extensive knowledge of packaging substrates, materials, printing, and comping. 
• Expert level understanding of file setup for production. 
• Must have portfolio to share with related work.

Base salary range: $80,017 - $109,470 per year plus 20% bonus eligibility.
This salary range is exclusive of fringe benefits. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary bonuses. If you are hired at CROPP, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that entry-level candidates to this role should expect to be at the lower end of the salary range and hiring at the maximum of the salary range is not typical.
