Working under general supervision, the Commissary Supervisor oversees commissary operations, ensuring efficient production, quality control, and adherence to safety and food standards. This role manages production schedules, inventory, and employee performance while optimizing department systems, including FlexiBake, SAP, and other ERP platforms. The Commissary Supervisor collaborates cross-functionally with Innovation, Operations, and Maintenance to support business objectives. Employees in this position may interact with their leader several times a week to receive guidance and feedback. Most non-routine activities may require their leader’s advance approval, but routine decisions within the general scope of the role may be made independently.


 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations & Leadership

  • Supervise and coordinate daily commissary production, ensuring all scheduled tasks, order fulfillment, and inventory needs are met.
  • Assign and adjust employee workloads based on production demands, prioritizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
  • Monitor equipment functionality, troubleshoot minor issues, and coordinate with Maintenance for timely repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Innovation and Operations, to align production activities with business needs.
  • Direct employees with professionalism and accountability, ensuring a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance production flow, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Ensure all employees follow GMP, SQF, and company food safety standards, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Provide real-time problem-solving and decision-making support during unexpected production challenges.
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping, labor tracking, and compliance with company policies.
  • Assist during emergencies or natural disasters to maintain site security and personnel accountability.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols, ensuring a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Lead and participate in safety meetings, addressing concerns and corrective actions.
  • Report and investigate workplace incidents per company protocol.

Training & Development

  • Train employees on production processes, safety procedures, and new equipment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to enhance team performance.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Monitor raw materials, request replenishments, and minimize material loss.
  • Conduct product quality checks, ensuring conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records, reporting issues promptly.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this role.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing or production required.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, FlexiBake) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly and more than 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods (up to 10 hours per shift).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, and climb stairs/ladders as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment, handle materials, and complete repetitive tasks with precision.
  • Tolerance for working in varying temperatures, including cold storage, ambient warehouse conditions, and warm production areas.
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to flour, allergens, and other airborne particles.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish colors, read labels, and inspect product quality.
  • Auditory ability to hear alarms, equipment signals, and verbal instructions in a noisy environment.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE)

  • Proficient ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and manage production workflows.
  • Working understanding of safety regulations, food manufacturing standards, and GMP/SQF compliance.
  • Working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
  • Developing knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Compensation: $68-$95k Annually DOE
