The Impact You'll Make

As our Engineering Intern (Lab & Software), you’ll help keep our R&D lab running accurately and efficiently by supporting instrumentation calibration and software/data tooling that power our testing.

Your impact? Reliable instruments, cleaner data, and faster test cycles—so our engineers can make better decisions, sooner. You’ll improve how sensors are configured and verified, how test data flows into databases and reports, and how software is versioned and maintained. R&D, Lab Engineering, and Test teams will benefit directly from your work as we move toward a more efficient, data-driven future.

You’ll collaborate with R&D Lab Engineering, Test, and Data/IT partners and take ownership of calibration tasks, sensor setup/troubleshooting, data processing scripts, and version control practices, helping us elevate lab quality and speed.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Calibrate & document a large inventory of lab instruments (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow, power/torque), revising procedures and ensuring traceable, accurate records.

  • Set up, configure, and troubleshoot sensors and data acquisition systems; perform hands-on lab work safely and consistently.

  • Enhance and maintain test software/tools using C++ and Python (plus LabVIEW/Java where applicable) and follow Git version control practices.

  • Automate data workflows by linking test outputs with SQL databases and generating clear, timely reports.

  • Continuously improve lab processes by updating documentation, sharing learnings, and adhering to quality and EHS standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or Computer Science (Bachelor’s acceptable; Master’s a plus)

  • Practical proficiency with C++ and Python; exposure to LabVIEW and/or Java; familiarity with SQL (MS SQL/MySQL).

  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics, refrigeration components, and control systems

  • Able to work on-site in Tallahassee during the academic year (~20 hrs/week) and in summer (~40 hrs/week).

Nice to have:
Hands-on experience in lab or engineering environments; MATLAB exposure; experience with data acquisition hardware.
