The Director of Training & Development is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering employee onboarding, training, and professional development/educational programs. This position assesses company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable employee training solutions. The individual in this role actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods to educate, enhance, and recognize performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, lead, and continuously improve new hire sales training programs to ensure successful onboarding, rapid ramp-up, and alignment with company sales strategies and culture.
- Assess new hire sales performance and learning progress, providing tailored coaching and support to accelerate readiness and confidence.
- Collaborate with sales leadership and enablement teams to identify skill gaps and implement targeted learning solutions that drive performance and retention.
- Facilitate engaging training sessions using a blend of live instruction, virtual learning, and self-paced modules grounded in adult learning principles, while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure consistency across delivery channels.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through performance metrics, feedback, and continuous improvement cycles.
- Maintain and update training materials, including playbooks, role-play scenarios, and digital content, to reflect evolving business needs and market conditions.
- Develop and deliver professional/leadership development programs that enhance retention, strengthen leadership competencies, and support career progression.
- Manage training platforms and technologies, ensuring seamless access to content and tracking of learner progress.
- Administer departmental budget and allocate resources to support strategic onboarding and continued education initiatives.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in sales enablement, onboarding, and professional development.
- Provide leadership and development of LTD staff members, including performance management, coaching, and mentorship.
- Oversee HR related functions for training staff, such as recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance evaluations, and career growth planning.
- Model and promote the organization’s values and culture throughout all training and development efforts.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Proven work experience as a Director of Training.
- Minimum five years of leadership experience.
- Minimum five years of content development and production management using multimedia and blended learning.
- Experience in learning design and implementation, course management systems, and online education.
- A passion for developing high-quality content, incorporating modern technology and professional learning approaches combining self-directed and multimedia learning.
- Strong presentation skills, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Able to prioritize, effective time management, multi-task, and have excellent organization skills.
- Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
- Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
- Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred.
- Capable of prioritizing multiple projects while still achieving deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
