Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Classification: Exempt

Status: Full-Time

Reports to: Manager, RxARECARE Operations

Purpose:

The Trainer, Pharmacist acts as a lead by ensuring pharmacist team workflow needs are met, by continually monitoring the workload across the pharmacist queues and addressing any necessary modifications. This role processes reports, assisting with development or revisions to clinical programs, and distribution of key information to the pharmacist team.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes payer/accreditor reports.
  • Assists with maintaining and updating pharmacist management program as necessary.
  • Evaluates staffing levels frequently, by monitoring queues maintained by the pharmacist team to ensure appropriate staffing, address modifications in a timely manner.
  • Engages in bi-weekly status meetings with team to provide updates on goals and performance metrics.
  • Coordinates and assists in managing and participating in pharmacy services, including compounding, and dispensing of medications, quality assurance and clinical monitoring activities.
  • Receives physician prescription orders and evaluates the appropriateness of these orders for dosage, drug choice, potential drug interactions, route of administration and stability.
  • Supervises the filling, receiving, compounding, and dispensing activities involved in providing finished product to the patient.
  • Ensures that the patient chart is complete for allergies, height, weight, current and past medical history, clinical laboratory results and concurrent medications (including over the counter or home remedy medications).
  • Ensures that, when necessary, laboratory tests have been ordered and the results are obtained and discussed with the nurse and the physician.
  • Provides patient counseling, education, and monitoring.
  • Ensures safety of patients and personnel by exercising good pharmacy practice in the process of drug therapy instructions to the patient.
  • Determines remaining doses on hand to manage inventory and avoid waste.
  • Provides clinical interventions.
  • Assesses responses to therapy, patient compliance, and ongoing review of drug regimens; report and manage adverse events.
  • Documents all communication with physicians, nurses, and patients in the patient chart.
  • Reviews literature and other materials pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and attend/complete education and training programs.
  • Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements and participate in on-call schedule.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or related field. 
  • 3+ years of specialty pharmacy operations experience, including cold chain management experience.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in ScriptMed software and reporting.
  • License/Certification: Current State’s Pharmacist license.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
