The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of optimum quality care to patients while in Pre-Op, PACU, and Phase ll of the Surgery Center.

This is a part-time (0.8) position working M-F between the hours of 5:30 am - 8:00 pm out of our Plymouth Orthopedic Surgery Center.

Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.  Essential Functions:

  • Assesses physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational, and developmental dimensions of the patient from pre-op phone call through the patient discharge, and provides written documentation of these findings.
  • Evaluates and documents patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical interventions and communicates the information appropriately.
  • Responsible for completing pre-operative phone calls, H&P (History and Physical) reviews, and providing appropriate admission requirements/instructions.
  • Assesses patient needs and supplies and equipment required for pain management procedure, patient needs, and physician preferences.
  • Responsible for completing post-operative phone calls, providing care and direction as appropriate.
  • Develops and provides an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical diagnosis, knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, surgical procedures and appropriate standards of care.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the perioperative experience.
  • Knowledgeable of the psychological, physiological & spiritual needs of patients and provides care accordingly and in an age appropriate manner for patients. 
  • Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department philosophies, policies and procedures and standards of care.
  • Labels and administers medications and solutions as ordered. Applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions.
  • Functions effectively in emergency situations and when under stress.
  • Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment, and competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to discharge.
  • Provides emotional support and comfort for patients/family members, informs family of patient status, and provides patient and family education.
  • Assists with procedures (i.e. pain management, blocks, conscience sedation.)
  • Follows proper channel of communication and informs department managers of unit activity, patient condition and concerns.
  • Reassess, evaluate and revise the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Respond appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and/or behavior.
  • Complete, accurate, legible and timely documentation of all patient care delivered at the Surgery Center as indicated per policy.
  • Accountable for reporting occurrences through the center’s established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
  • Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students (includes functioning as a preceptor).
  • Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
  • Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned

 Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited school of registered nursing.
  • Current licensure as a RN in the State of MN or WI multi-state required.
  • One year of nursing experience in PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 5 years preferred.
  • Current member American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses preferred.
  • Current CPR/ACLS/PALS certification required or completed upon hire.

  • Work in the surgery center during business hours 
  • Travel independently throughout the surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required
  • Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
  • Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
  • Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understand and execute a variety of instructions
  • Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Travel to other work locations, if required
