More About the Strategy:
Currently investing out of Fund XII, which has approximately $15 billion in commitments and has already deployed half of the capital raised, the strategy benefits from long-duration capital—typically locked up for 10+ years—allowing for a patient, long-term investment horizon. It boasts a track record of delivering gross unlevered internal rates of return (IRRs) exceeding 20% over more than 25 years.
Led since inception by Oaktree Co-founder and Portfolio Manager Bruce Karsh, the strategy targets a wide-ranging set of opportunities: providing proprietary structured financing solutions to borrowers with limited access to capital; acquiring assets in out-of-favor industries; and building platforms with exceptional management teams to pursue undervalued, niche, or dislocation-driven investments. It also invests in companies and hard assets, stressed securities, and unusual instruments. The strategy’s lean deal teams—typically composed of two to three investment professionals—operate within a culture of apprenticeship, fostering deep expertise and agility.
In recent decades, Global Opportunities has expanded its geographic footprint to include more countries and regions with established legal systems and restructuring regimes, further enhancing its ability to source and execute complex transactions worldwide.
