Job Summary of the Director, Total Rewards & HRIS

Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, Director, Total Rewards & HRIS is responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing, and administering impactful compensation, benefits, and wellness strategies designed to attract, engage, and retain talent. This position will research and bring in- depth understanding of external best-practices and innovative trends to apply them to Total Rewards programs and technologies. This high-impact role leads the company’s efforts in the areas of compensation and benefits, including supporting executive compensation, benefits plan design and administration, and HRIS management. The leader in this role will have a strategic, creative and data driven approach to recommendations and decision making. The Total Rewards leader will first seek to understand business needs and build a cohesive and collaborative work environment, partnering effectively across a variety of stakeholder groups to accomplish objectives aligned to the organization’s business plan. This role will also be responsible for managing, Leave of Absence, and employee policy compliance processes.

Requirements of the Director, Total Rewards & HRIS

  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible compensation, benefits, and 401(k) plan administration experience to include analysis, plan design and program administration: 3-5 years in leadership roles.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Total Rewards components; base and incentive pay, work/life benefits, base and ancillary benefits, market pricing and pay for performance.
  • Experience with sales commission a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience working with Compensation Committees on executive compensation strategies and equity plan design and administration preferred.
  • Strong change management, customer service, analytical, organizational, problem- solving, presentation, and communication skills required.
  • Self-starter and influencer who can easily flex and pivot when priorities change and is able to deliver against established timelines and priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
  • Deep analytical skills with the ability to analyze data to influence decision making.
  • Excellent working knowledge and proficiency in MS Office products with strong Excel capabilities, HRIS, and compensation tools and surveys.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to exercise the highest levels of confidentiality, privacy, problem solving, coaching & mentoring skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the Regulatory and Legislative imperatives and impacts related to Total Rewards programs (FLSA, ERISA, 409A, HIPAA, etc.).

Responsibilities of the Director, Total Rewards & HRIS

The specific duties of the Director, Total Rewards & HRIS include but are not limited to:

  • Provides pragmatic and innovative vision and leadership to total rewards that focuses on the whole employee and positively impacts business results.
  • Leads the strategy, research, design and execution of compensation, and benefits programs, including health, retirement, wellness, and ancillary benefits to help us attract and retain the best talent, all while balancing our bottom line and business objectives.
  • Partners with VP, Human Resources, finance and external compensation consultants on the ongoing management of the company’s equity program.
  • Ensures programs are performance driven, market competitive, legally compliant, consistently, and accurately administered, and effectively communicated.
  • Designs and develops salary range structures, career ladders, career pathing and competencies, partnering with HR colleagues and key stakeholders.
  • Strives to be industry leading and progressive in our total rewards programs, regularly monitoring external trends, conducting annual salary benchmark studies, to proactively adjust our total rewards programs and stay competitive in the market.
  • Drives annual employee compensation planning activities, including the merit review cycle, bonus payments, promotions, and market adjustments.
  • Establishes and delivers key compensation and benefit program metrics and reporting to understand the effectiveness of our total rewards strategy.
  • Partners with the VP, Human Resources to develop materials for Compensation Committee meetings and collaborate with VP, HR, outside consultants, and Finance on pre/post board meeting action items as needed.
  • Develops strategies to drive employee awareness and understanding of all compensation and benefit programs and partners with Talent Development to create education opportunities.
  • Prepares annual budget for total rewards and manages expenditures related to benefits programs.
  • May partner with the Business Intelligence & Commercial Operations team, as needed on development and/or delivery of sales commissions plans.
  • Leads Benefits team in the development, execution, and communication of benefits programs.
  • Heads up the selection and management of all vendors, brokers, and administrative partners in support of our benefits and wellness programs.
  • Works with benefits broker to conduct annual reviews of benefit vendor partnerships to include Request for Proposals, annual bid process for renewals and executing transition plans and processes with new partners.
  • Manages benefits administration, including open enrollment, communicating benefits information to employees and promoting wellness programs.
  • Reviews ancillary benefits (e.g., STD, LTD, Life, and EAP) renewals and ensure cost competitive contracts as well as competitive coverage.
  • Works with 401(k) recordkeeper/trustee and outside auditors in administering the 401(k)plan.
  • Participates actively as a member of the 401(k) Investment Committee and takes a proactive role in the ongoing review of our plan and all appropriate education and employee communication as well as handle all required reporting.
  • Partners with EHS on OSHA related matters and directs Workers’ Compensation and all leave of absence programs.
  • Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization’s compliance.
  • Manages vendor relationships to ensure service levels and agreed duties are being performed timely and effectively.
  • Manages the data integrity of the HRIS system and provides analytics and reports to management and HR partners.
  • Contributes fully as a member of the Human Resources leadership team to address business issues with relevant HR strategies – even when outside the traditional scope of responsibilities.
  • In the event of a future acquisition, will act as project manager for total rewards; includes integration of newly acquired businesses and employees into current benefits, continuity of care, and coverage is established.
