Job Summary

The Director of Sales serves as the strategic driver of revenue and brand activation for the Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis. With direct oversight of the sales and marketing division, this role is responsible for maximizing occupancy, strengthening existing client relationships, and capturing new business opportunities to ensure the property meets and exceeds revenue and profit goals. The Director leads the day-to-day sales function, including direct sales efforts, client engagement, sales administration, training, and marketing activation. This leader will recommend and execute the hotel’s annual sales forecast, marketing and advertising plans, and budget, while cultivating a culture of trust, transparency, and results across the sales team and beyond. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Sales & Revenue Generation

  • Lead all group, transient, and catering sales efforts to maximize total hotel revenue.
  • Develop and manage the division’s budget, sales plans, and marketing strategies (advertising, PR, digital) to drive occupancy, ADR, and F&B revenues.
  • Conduct outside sales calls, site tours, and client entertainment to strengthen relationships and secure new business.
  • Negotiate contracts and understand key terms to protect hotel interests.
  • Monitor production of top accounts and evaluate market trends to develop proactive strategies.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Directly oversee the hotel’s Sales & Catering/Event Management team.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and development to sales managers to ensure team goals are met or exceeded.
  • Partner with GM and Corporate HR on hiring, training, development, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and recognition across the team.

Marketing & Community Activation

  • Partner with Avion Digital, Second Wave, and branded field marketing to execute marketing campaigns and optimize visibility.
  • Maintain strong presence in the Memphis community and industry organizations to expand hotel reach.
  • Ensure brand standards are reflected in all marketing initiatives and guest touchpoints.

Operational & Strategic Contributions

  • Attend and lead daily, weekly, and monthly business review meetings.
  • Provide accurate forecasting and reporting of group pace, revenue pipeline, and marketing ROI.
  • Act as Manager on Duty (M.O.D.) as required and represent the GM in their absence.
  • Travel weekly, as required, for client engagement and business development.

Requirements

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience

  • At least 6 years of progressive hotel sales leadership experience preferred; or
  • 4-year degree in Hospitality Management, Marketing, or related field plus at least 2 years of related experience; or
  • 2-year degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and close business.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hospitality sales systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver strategic results.
  • Advanced knowledge of sales/marketing/hospitality principles and practices.
