Other Conditions: Position is expected to begin approximately late September 2025 or as mutually acceptable. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research will involve employing cell, molecular, immunological and statistical techniques to express proteins, conduct immunogenicity and viral pathogenesis experiments. Observe and record data of all laboratory and experimental work, including computer input and analysis. Assist with laboratory maintenance and inventory, IBC, IRB, IACUC and CHS protocols. Prepare experimental data for presentation and assist in writing manuscripts for publications. The successful candidate should have a strong interest in pursuing a research career.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. equivalent degree in biology, microbiology, or related field. Full-time graduate student in the College of Natural Sciences Graduate Programs, UHM. Must have basic knowledge of ecology, wildlife sampling techniques, ELISA, and disease epidemiology. Skills in applying basic laboratory techniques to answer research questions; ability to organize tasks and to work independently; ability to write scientific reports; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in field sampling and organizing wildlife sampling trips is desired. Understanding of feral swine control and serology as a means to elucidate pathogen transmission from wildlife to humans and the environment.
