The Aquatics Division of Seattle Parks and Recreation encompasses 9 pools, 7 swim beaches, 7 boat ramps, and 2 boating/small craft centers. Seattle Parks and Recreation Small Craft Centers offer year-round programming in rowing, sailing, and paddling for youth and adult participants
Seattle Parks and Recreation seeks a dynamic, outgoing individual with strong people and computer skills to provide outstanding customer service to our patrons. Recreation Attendants are the face and voice of Seattle Parks and Recreation representing the Department and City of Seattle in a professional and enthusiastic manner, enforcing Department and City rules and regulations.
The Boating Office Assistant (Recreation Attendant) position will report to the Recreation Specialist.
This position will be assigned to Green Lake Small Craft Center, which operates out of a brand-new facility on the south shore of Green Lake in North Seattle.
Position Duties
Superior Customer Service:
- Greet and engage community members and visitors of all ages and diverse backgrounds including teens, young adults, people experiencing homelessness or in crisis, and all other customers, in a positive manner, in person and over the phone.
- Provide information regarding the facility, programs, events, or other activities occurring within the facility or department. Explain policies, procedures, and requirements related to class enrollment, program participation, or facility use.
- Engage customers to resolve problems and complaints, adhering to program and operations policies and procedures.
- Open and close the facility.
- Monitor users in general building and associated grounds areas to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Assist in conducting safe youth and adult programs on the water by providing communications and safety support for instructional staff.
- Use a computerized database registration system to register participants for various activities and programs.
- Collect associated fees and payments in cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, and/or automated debts.
- Provide receipts, refunds, credits to customers.
- Prepare bank deposits of collected receipts. Adhere to department, city, and state policies and procedures with respect to cash handling, payment cards, and secure financial and personal information.
- Generate and retrieve reports from computerized database registration system and/or manually complete reports on admission and attendance using basic math skills.
- Open and close customer accounts, respond to requests, verify and/or change customer information for proper billing and collections; and collect payments and fees.
- Ability to learn various software supporting necessary administrative needs of the small craft center including MS Excel.
- Provide excellent communication to both internal and external customers in oral and written formats.
- Provide accurate and prompt information to colleagues, customers, and teammates.
- Work in a team environment with a "can do" attitude that is positive and welcoming. Able to work in a highly dynamic, fast past environment.
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Required to work evenings, weekends, irregular hours, and split shifts.
- Normally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- License, Certification and Other Requirements
- American Red Cross Multi-Media First Aid Card and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
- Desired Qualifications:
- All staff need to be safe in the regular performance of their job and prepared to assist in an emergency
- Ability to pass a 10-minute swim test
- Ability to learn and demonstrate competency in the operation of a motor powered rescue boat including obtaining a Washington State Boater’s Education certification within 30 days of employment
- Strong customer service experience including experience working in a busy environment answering multi-line phones, email correspondence, and handling in-person customers
- Administrative experience such as maintaining records, relaying messages, and filing
- Computer knowledge and experience, particularly in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
- Experience in registration and scheduling systems
- Experience in recreation, education, or aquatics
- Experience with persons from various cultural backgrounds
- Experience in the operation of small boats which may include rowing shells, sailboats, canoes/kayaks, and/or power boats
Other Qualifications
The full salary range for this position is $25.98 - $38.91 Hourly.
