POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. The Controller is accountable to assist the CFO in improving overall financial health as well as maintaining full compliance with all the applicable regulations. The individual must be well-deserved in all aspects of financial management, ranging from managing all accounting functions, accounting policies and procedures, and ensuring preparation of complete and accurate financial statements and overseeing annual audit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
- Perform month-end and year-end closings, including to but not limited to bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, closing journal entries, and posting monthly accruals.
- Coordinate bank deposits and report financial results on a regular basis to the CFO.
- Support the CFO in preparation of Board and Finance Committee meetings, including monthly reports, forecasting and financial presentations
- Support the CFO in managing the annual budgeting process.
- Oversight of the accounting system (SGA) configuration, administration, assigning new users, terminating old users, and creation of general ledger accounts.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer on issues that affect the Y-Montclair financial outcome.
- Ensure financial management of grants and timely submission of reports.
- Assist the CFO with the external audit processes and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes, procedures and controls.
- Ensure that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
- Leads process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Support Chief Financial Officer with ad hoc reporting, including serving as ‘acting’ CFO upon the CFO’s absence, and other support requirements in the management of the Finance team, its operations and reporting to the Executive Management Team (EMT).
- Assist with the preparation of reports for all required governmental agencies and the Y-USA. Manage all transactions, files, and all necessary reports, ensure that all account reports and transactions are prepared on a timely basis.
- Manage and develop accounting staff and foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Special projects as assigned to support financial objectives.
- Attend required abuse risk management training and adhered to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures. Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicate to all employees and volunteer the Y’s commitment to protect its members from abuse.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 6+ years of experience managing a team.
- Approachable, collaborative, and influential partner to business leaders.
- Ability to be autonomous, multi-task, set priorities and execute in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain focused under pressure, ambiguity, frequent change, or unpredictability to adapt with a scaling business.
- Strong presentation skills.

- Strong organizational, attention to detail, time-management, and problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

- Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Advanced use of MS Excel, including formulas, filtering, pivot tables, sorting and formatting.
- Onsite 4 days/week, 1 day remote from home (non-negotiable)
PREFERRED:
- Experience working in at a nonprofit organization is preferred but not required.
- MBA, CPA or CMA preferred.
- M&A experience preferred but not required.

- The candidate must have reliable transportation to/from the office.
- Must be able to travel to other service areas and/or offsites as needed.

ANNUAL SALARY: $80,000 – $100,000
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
