Role Overview
veritree is an award-winning climate tech start-up based in Vancouver. Launched in 2021, our technology measures and verifies the impact of global restoration efforts from the ground up. We are a small team on a big mission to plant 1 billion verified trees by 2030 with our community of businesses, planting organizations, and consumers who believe in the transformative power of verified restoration projects.
veritree is seeking a Science & Research Coordinator to support the development and implementation of nature technology research and data methodologies. This role is ideal for an early-career professional or graduate student with a strong interest in impact measurement in nature restoration. The role will contribute to research, copyediting, data analysis, and science operations while gaining experience at the intersection of technology and restoration science.
6 Month Key Outcomes
- Clean and analyze data: Process sensor and survey datasets from 2–3 restoration projects to generate actionable insights.
- Research proposal development: Draft 1–2 proposals to support R&D initiatives and external funding opportunities.
- Product and data systems proficiency: Develop working knowledge of veritree’s products and data systems to independently pull reports/data and respond to internal and customer requests, averaging 2–3 requests per week.
- Documentation and reporting: Create clear, concise documentation of R&D projects, internal workflows, and processes. Expected outputs include 8–10 short reports, FAQ documents, or white papers.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Methodology Support
- Assist in the design and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and research protocols across different ecosystems, including mangroves, agroforestry, wildfire restoration, urban forestry and kelp.
- Create documentation about internal processes and workflows.
- Contribute to literature reviews, methodology benchmarking, and updates on relevant nature tech innovations.
- Keep up to date with the latest research, initiatives, and market developments.
Science Administration & Operations
- Lead data entry, document organization, and file management across science projects.
- Track and organize research tasks, timelines, and partner communications as needed.
- Coordinate sensor (bioacoustics, trail cameras) deployment and work with on-the-ground teams to retrieve data.
Data Cleaning and Analytics
- Support survey cleaning and preprocessing of social and field sensor data
- Perform data cleaning and quality assurance checks on incoming datasets, ensuring consistency with metadata and standards.
- Conduct basic statistical or GIS analyses under guidance from science or data leads.
Content Creation and Copyediting
- Provide background research and copy editing support for grant proposals and marketing materials.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography, Sustainability, Data Science, or a related field.
- Ability to synthesize peer-reviewed literature to develop white papers, reports, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Demonstrated interest in carbon, sustainability, forestry, nature tech, or restoration monitoring.
- Proficiency in basic data analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets; Python or R).
- Demonstrated expertise in writing and communicating scientific ideas for diverse audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Experience with GIS or spatial data platforms is a plus.
- Basic understanding of carbon, biodiversity, or social impact assessment frameworks.
- Familiarity with ESG, biodiversity, or environmental reporting frameworks is advantageous.

- Passionate about nature restoration and climate action.
- Strong communication skills, especially in documenting processes and preparing summaries for internal use.
- Willingness to work across diverse tasks, from research to administrative responsibilities.
Only local candidates considered. Must be able to work from the office 3 times a week. The expected start date is mid-November.

A typical hiring range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 CAD per year, with the final salary offer based on your qualifications, job-related skills, and relevant experience.
