The Position: Safety, Health & Environmental Engineer (SHE) The Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Engineer is responsible for assisting the Channahon site in achieving and maintaining compliance with Styrolution SHE policies as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role supports the safe and reliable operation of a permitted manufacturing site by providing technical expertise in environmental, safety, and health programs while building strong partnerships across operations, maintenance, and regulatory agencies.

What you will do:

  • Lead environmental compliance programs for air, water, and waste, including permit applications, reporting, and recordkeeping (Title V, LDAR, MACT, EPCRA, TSCA, NPDES, SWPPP, RCRA).
  • Oversee site waste management programs, sustainability projects, and ISO14001 implementation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver SHE training programs, safety initiatives, and audits to support safe work practices, contractor safety, and incident management systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and contractors to define compliance requirements, evaluate projects and process changes, and ensure regulatory alignment.
  • Represent the company with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community organizations to promote SHE initiatives and maintain positive relationships.
  • Support site emergency response planning, hazard communication, and DOT/US Coast Guard compliance activities.

 

What you will bring:

Level of education & knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required).
  • Preferred disciplines: Environmental, Safety, or similar technical fields.
  • Knowledge of SHE technical areas strongly preferred.

 

Experience in general:

  • 3–5 years of experience in a chemical plant environment (preferred).

 

Technical skills:

  • Strong understanding of component operations within a chemical plant.
  • Ability to interpret and apply SHE laws, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use ancillary company software applications.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs and walk up to 8 hours per day.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Work in confined spaces and varied environments.
  • Wear required PPE including respiratory protection.

The annual base salary for this position typically ranges between $108,412 and $135,515. Additionally, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus as part of their total compensation package. This salary range is an estimate based on factors such as candidate qualifications, operational needs, and business performance metrics. Actual compensation may vary above or below the stated range, as permitted by applicable laws.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At INEOS Styrolution, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are carefully made based on the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
