Director, Computational Biology
We are seeking an experienced Director, Computational Biology who would propose and guide strategic cross-functional initiatives for disease understanding and portfolio replenishment. The successful candidate will coach computational biologist contributions to portfolio stage-gate decisions via integrated quantitative analyses of internal & external multi-omics data sources. He or she will help envision computational biology strategy by co-creating, training, and evaluating artificial intelligence capabilities. This leader will catalyze team-based solutions to complex problems by architecting tasks and outputs that will lead to larger solutions that create portfolio value.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this Director, Computational Biology role are to:
- Evaluate and contextualize the molecular evidence supporting an oncology Product’s therapeutic hypothesis with relevant multi-omics data;
- Design, execute, and interpret complex quantitative analyses to address precision drug development criteria. Examples of precision drug development criteria include RAISE dimensions, translational science strategy, proof-of-mechanism, and lifecycle management;
- Contribute to Product Team scientific strategy and prosecution of critical path objectives using state-of-the art computational biology methods to analyze large and complex data sets;
- Deliver biological insights on disease biology understanding to oncology Product Teams, who apply these insights towards stage-gate decisions, portfolio prioritization, and/or submissions to Health Authorities;
- Propose and catalyze the co-creation and implementation of interdisciplinary, systematic solutions that create value for the R&D portfolio, such as: acquisition or generation of multi-omics data; data science solutions and platforms for accelerated analyses and insight generation from multi-omics data; innovative machine learning approaches with broad portfolio impact;
- Responsible for mentoring and guiding others, identifies technical gaps, applies data science acumen to unsolved business goals;

WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- PhD degree;
- Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis of DNA-seq, RNA-seq, proteomics, single-cell, or imaging datasets with proficiency in a programming environment (such as R or Python);
- Demonstrated peer-reviewed publications in computational biology;
- Expert level of proficiency in quantitative analyses, including demonstrated understanding of statistics;
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and learning agility, highly self-motivated, lifelong learner with an aspiration of continuous improvement of oneself and others;
- Capability to present even very complex issues clearly and convincingly to project teams or decision bodies. Develop stories and visualizations to effectively communicate analytical insights in a clear, precise, and actionable manner. Demonstrates ability to deliver presentations to broad audiences across functions;
- Demonstrates advanced business acumen, people and project leadership competencies, and technical expertise;
- Strong communication competencies to include presentations and delivery of complex quantitative analyses in a clear, concise, and actionable manner to broad audiences and key stakeholders across multiple functions or to external partners;
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD degree with 8+ years of post-graduation experience in Sciences (Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Computer Science, Informatics, or other related quantitative discipline) with very strong computational focus;
- 5+ years industry experience in drug development or biotech role with clear understanding of applying multi-omics data analyses to advance a portfolio of drug discovery or clinical development projects;
- Track record of delivering drug development portfolio value via the evaluation and contextualization of molecular evidence supporting therapeutic hypotheses with relevant internal and external multi-omics data.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $163,220.00 - $244,830.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
