Description

The Community Navigator will work to promote health equity and ensure that activities/services are aligned with SPFC’s vision, mission, programs, and values to promote access to community-wide services for our neighbors in need. We Help Services provides direct services to clients, including a client-choice food pantry, limited financial assistance, and referral information. The Community Navigator serves as a bridge between We Help clients and other community resources, assessing the immediate needs of individuals and families and providing warm, comprehensive hand-offs to relevant agencies. The Community Navigator will continuously develop the We Help knowledge base of community resources, continuously educating staff and cross training volunteers, and will assist with providing  linkages to relevant community resources for housing, employment, transportation, economic self-sufficiency, health and equity. This position will report to the Director of Navigation.


Schedule

Monday - Wednesday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Thursday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

Position Responsibilities

  • Contribute to an environment of respect and dignity through every interaction with clients, volunteers, and co-workers.   
  • Meet with clients individually to assess immediate needs and develop a plan for assistance.   
  • Provide adequate follow-up with clients to ensure connection with community resources and provide ongoing facilitation when needed.   
  • Input client data and maintain client records, with respect for client confidentiality.  
  • Be knowledgeable of local resources and services available to clients, including processes and requirements for obtaining assistance and housing with local housing authorities.   
  • Support clients with employment needs, while remaining aware of community employment opportunities and support services available for specific populations. 
  • Knowledge of SNAP benefits and application process; assist clients with applications and benefits questions. Establish and maintain relationship with DCF liaison.   
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with other services providers to best serve client needs.   
  • Identify and implement opportunities for community resources to reach We Help clients on-site. Maintain relationships with community partner agencies to leverage community resource sharing. 
  • Attend networking and service provider meetings to remain informed of all relevant resources. and to educate staff and volunteers about current services available.   
  • Prepare resource packets, training materials, and conduct volunteer training, when appropriate.     
  • Participate in ongoing evaluation and improvement of We Help Services.   

Support the general operation of We Help Services. This includes:    

  • Provide client intake and front desk assistance as needed.
  • Learn requirements for obtaining Florida ID and birth certificates from all states; to assist clients and process requests promptly.  
  • Assist with scheduling, supervision, and ongoing general training of We Help volunteers.   
  • Assist with data entry and reporting duties, as needed.   
  • Assist in other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains confidentiality of client information.

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize teamwork and collaboration across departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Aptitude for learning new technological skills and utilizing a variety of technologies and database systems.
  • Commitment to and modeling of St. Petersburg Free Clinic mission and values.
  • Ability to research new community resources that are available in the community. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Social services/human services experience, supervisory experience and background with general office administration are desired. 
  • Knowledge about public assistance, social services, and other local resources available to clients in Pinellas County is required. 
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.   

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at periodically.
  • Occasional bending, lifting, stocking, cleaning, and moving large boxes, occasionally in a warehouse environment.
