A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is seeking a full-time exempt Sterilization Manager on the Mesa, Arizona campus. The Sterilization Manager is responsible for overseeing all sterilization and infection control processes within the dental school clinic. This role ensures that all instruments, equipment, and clinical environments meet or exceed standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other regulatory bodies. The Sterilization Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring the safety of patients, students, faculty, and staff while supporting the clinical and educational mission of the dental school.
Sterilization & Dispensary Management
- Lead and manage all aspects of sterilization and infection control operations, including cleaning, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of dental instruments and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and clinic staff to educate on proper instrument handling, transport, and infection control practices.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized central sterilization area and satellite processing zones throughout the clinic.
Compliance Standards & Protocols
- Ensure strict compliance with CODA standards and all relevant OSHA, CDC, EPA, and state health regulations.
- Develop, implement, and update sterilization protocols, training materials, and standard operating procedures in coordination with infection control and clinic administration.
- Monitor and document sterilizer performance, conduct biological and chemical monitoring, and maintain detailed logs in accordance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Participate in internal audits and prepare documentation and reports required for CODA site visits and institutional compliance reviews.
Asset Management, Maintenance & Calibration
- Manage inventory of sterilization supplies, PPE, and infection control materials; coordinate ordering and replenishment in collaboration with the Inventory Manager.
- Stay informed of emerging infection control technologies, sterilization equipment, and regulatory changes to maintain best practices.
- Maintain an accurate listing of assets, performing regular audits and quality checks to ensure properly maintained instruments & cassettes.
- Coordinate maintenance and calibration of sterilization equipment and ensure timely service or replacement as needed.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and train sterilization technicians, fostering a culture of safety, quality control, and accountability.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment focused on quality service and professionalism.
- Coordinate ongoing training in proper infection control, sterilization protocols, and customer service.
Technology & Systems
- Utilize sterilization & dispensary management software to track and maintain accurate records and generate reports.
- Oversee the management, reporting and auditing of sterilization usage in the electronic health records (EHR) system.
- Maintain proper working scanners and tracking mechanisms to ensure inventory is always accurate and accounted for in the system.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene, Healthcare Management, Infection Control, or related field; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in sterilization or infection control in a dental, medical, or academic clinic setting.
- Certification in sterilization or infection control (e.g., Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate from OSAP/DANB) preferred.
- Knowledge of CODA accreditation standards, sterilization practices, and dental clinic workflows.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of managing digital compliance records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in managing student and resident clinics within an academic institution.
