Network Engineer (Field)

Summary

The Field Technician is responsible for supporting UDT customers with field technician level support for the professional managed services UDT offers. Working directly with the managed services group, the Field Technician will provide on-site customer service through quick and accurate inbound/outbound communication with customers and 3rd party vendors to schedule, deliver, and report field issues in a timely manner. The Field Technician is also responsible for proactive reporting operational deficiencies or other operational issues within client network, hardware, and related services. Providing professional and proactive communication to problem alerts and managing 3rd party vendor equipment onsite client facilities resources to remediate the network services expeditiously and within defined SLAs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides field technician level support to UDT customers on-site, via phone, email, and ticketing system. Interacting with UDT leadership, technical representatives, other technology services department/personnel as well as the on-site customer and security personnel.
  • Will accurately document and rebuild network racks in accordance with best practices and customer policies and standards. Upon identification of significant issues, proactively contact the UDT supervisor and provide updates through the resolution. 
  • Will coordinate with UDT on-site network engineers and NOC to communicate and properly document the maintenance window and any relative information in a timely manner.
  • Takes ownership and manages high-profile customer requested tasks. Proactively applies lessons learned and provides solutions towards thorough resolutions.
  • Will openly collaborate with other UDT team members to address situations that fall outside of the standard closet rebuild.
  • Will participate in upgrading customer environments to ensure secure and optimal network performance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be extremely customer and team focused. Willing to put the customer first and ensure they are engaged regularly. Be a productive, educated, advocate for the team and UDT, utilizing your past experience to provide the highest quality support possible.
  • 1+ years of cabling local area networks, internet connectivity, or internet security appliances. 
  • 2+ years of experience installing routers, switches, or wireless access points.

Education

  • An associate’s degree in information technology or business is preferred and/or a combined technical certifications and job experience is required.
  • A Cisco CCENT certification is preferred
  • Any other certifications or professional development units (PDUs) are a plus.

Travel

• Must be able to travel as needed to customer locations as scheduled.

Working Conditions

• Reporting into the office with some optional remote working options available.

• On-site IDF closet work, standing for extended periods of time.

• Ability to lift 40lbs.
