About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Android Developer to design and build mobile features that directly improve the lives of professional drivers and shape the future of safer, more efficient highways. In this role, you’ll work hands-on with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Room, Retrofit, and modern Android development practices. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, iOS, and backend engineering teams.
Essential Responsibilities
Technical Ownership
- Design, build, and maintain advanced features for the PrePass Android app using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Room, and Retrofit.
- Ensure app performance, reliability, and maintainability through clean architecture and best practices.
- Write high-quality, testable code with unit tests, UI tests, and continuous integration.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in development and production.
Product Development & Feature Delivery
- Own features end-to-end: from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, and release.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, iOS, and backend engineering teams to deliver consistent and intuitive user experiences.
- Contribute to long-term technical strategy and architectural evolution of the Android platform.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor junior engineers and raise the technical bar across the mobile team.
- Share best practices and help shape the mobile development culture.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of professional Android development experience.
- Expert-level skills in Kotlin and modern Android development.
- Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose, Room, Retrofit, and coroutines.
- Strong understanding of Android app architecture (MVVM, MVI, dependency injection).
- Solid testing discipline, including unit, UI, and integration testing.
- Proven ability to debug, optimize, and improve app performance.
Bonus Points For
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting third-party SDKs and hardware devices (ELDs, TSPs, telematics).
- Familiarity with CAN protocol, OBD-II, J1939, and other communication standards used in commercial vehicle systems.
- Experience with Bluetooth and hardware communication protocols.
- Experience with WebSockets, gRPC streaming, or similar real-time web protocols.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for Android (Gradle, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or similar).
- Knowledge of offline-first design and handling intermittent connectivity.
- Prior experience mentoring or coaching teammates.
