Position Summary: The Vice President, Information Technology, guides priorities and operations to advance the organization’s mission and strategic goals. This role oversees IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and digital innovation and emerging technologies such as AI tools, while ensuring the integrity and scalability of AHIP’s data and systems. The VP manages staff and vendors, delivering secure, reliable, and forward-looking solutions that support advocacy, member engagement, and operational excellence. Partnering with senior leadership and stakeholders, the VP of IT ensures that technology investments drive measurable value for AHIP and its members. This position is based in AHIP’s offices in Washington, D.C. and requires physical presence in AHIP’s offices in compliance with AHIP’s in-office hybrid work policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide technology planning and strategy to align with AHIP's mission and goals.
- Administer and optimize the IT operating and capital budget, balancing internal resources and managed services to achieve high value and efficiency.
- Oversee AHIP's IT infrastructure, including enterprise systems, cloud services, cybersecurity, and hardware/software lifecycle management, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
- Provide leadership and management of IT staff and contractors, fostering a culture of technical excellence, responsive service, and proactive communication.
- Serve as the primary liaison with AHIP’s Managed Services Provider (MSP) and other vendors, ensuring high performance, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organizational needs.
- Lead the administration and strategic evolution of AHIP’s Association Management System (AMS), ensuring usability, integration, and effective data governance.
- Ensure the development, testing, and execution of disaster recovery, business continuity, and risk management protocols to safeguard AHIP’s technology resources.
- Oversee centralized processes for software acquisition, system migrations, data retention/recovery, and regular updates to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal departments to deploy and optimize tools that support workflows, reporting, dashboards, automation, and user experience.
- Oversee programming to train and upskill employees on IT tools aligned to their positions, including generative AI productivity tools.
- Lead the planning, prioritization, and execution of IT projects, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, budgets, and timelines.
- Identify and implement innovative technology solutions that enhance member services, non-dues revenue, advocacy tools, and operational effectiveness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive IT experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, and cybersecurity principles.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex IT initiatives, managing budgets, and delivering projects on time and within scope.
- Proven ability to manage and assess vendor performance and service delivery.
- Strong leadership, management, and communication skills with the ability to inspire teams and collaborate across departments.
- Experience with enterprise applications, database management, and data integrity practices.
- Familiarity with cloud computing, digital innovation, and emerging technologies.
- Ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical solutions.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; curiosity and continuous learning mindset.
Other Qualifications
- Experience in the association or nonprofit sector.
- Familiarity with association management systems (AMS), Microsoft 365, and cloud platforms (iMIS experience strongly preferred)
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
- Proven project and program management experience, with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and adapt under pressure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and leveraging technology to support organizational goals.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
